If you talk to players, a lot of them evaluate a team's potency based on the number of explosive offensive players they have, those guys who can take it to the house from anywhere on the field. This is not just based on their footspeed mind you, but their talent, as it takes more than footspeed to create big plays.

I currently count three on this team - Dez, Austin and Felix. That is actually not too bad and if you go around the league, I think you'd be surprised at how many teams have fewer than three explosive players on their offense

Don't forget Witten. I know he isn't the fastest TE in the league but dude can get WIDE open for 40+. He's been known to take it to the house a time or two on those excellent routes he runs.

Possibly D Murray as well.

Yeah, what was his forty time? I've always loved Demarco Murray but remember being surprised his forty time was as fast as it was, as I was with Julio Jones'...

I think we will come to appreciate Miles and Dez as one of the leagues most feared tandems this year. I just hope we can stay healthy and that our line can protect.

i think he can run high 4.3s to low 4.4s. He's definitely fast.

No, I can't put Witten in that category. Best hands of any TE in the league? Sure. Incredible ability to get open against LBs in the middle of the field? You bet. But explosive? Nope.

If you're trying to evaluate an offensive team's potency, then your evaluation of Dallas starts and ends with Jason Witten. He's the number one guy they gameplan for, and, if he's not considered explosive, then explosiveness is not a valid measure of potency.

He is usually the yac leader among TEs.

You're missing the point. I'm not dissing Witten in any way, shape or form and he's certainly one of the most effective offensive players on our team, but he is NOT that home-run hitter type of player, based on the criteria I'm using.

If you're going to be a scary offensive team, you need explosive players and my point was that we probably have more than most.

Let me put it this way -- ten seconds to go at the fifty yard line and you need a touchdown. Who are you looking at to make that big play? Dez, yes. Austin, yes. Felix, yes. Witten, no.

Comparing him to wr or rb yeah not as explosive. Compared to TEs different story.

that is why I send Witten down the middle and toss the deep ball to him, no is looking for it. :D

I get what your saying and I pretty much agree Witten while a very big part of the offense is not the guy who is going to take the 5 or 10 yard pass and get to the endzone

Yes, there would be very few TEs that would fall into this category (possibly Vernon Davis but can't think of many others). Hell, there's any number of RBs and WRs that don't fall into this category. And there are a number of teams out there that don't have a single explosive offensive player. Again, I think this is something we can definitely view as a positive for this team, we've got some big hitters on this team.

I think I am missing the point. If you're going to be a scary offensive team, don't you just want players other teams are scared of? Why is 'explosiveness' especially relevant?

Nice thought, though.
