Now that the CBA is a done deal and we will have anywhere from $22m-$25m in cap space, (and i'm sure we can do some restructuring to get more). These are the moves that I think would put us in the elite level and SB contenders for the next 3 yrs.

Free Agents
TO (WR) -
Hutchinson (OG)
Mawae (C)
Fabini (OT)
Arrington (SOLB)
Chavous (FS)
Longwell (PK)
Sowell (FB)

Draft
# 8 (1st rd) Vernon Davis (Trade #18, LA and next Years 2nd)
#33 (2nd rd) Bobby Carpenter (trade #50 and #82)
#82 (3rd rd) Traded
#104 (4th rd) traded last year
#146 (5th rd) BPA
#174 (6th rd) BPA
#210 (7th Rd) BPA

With these additions, the cowboys would have addressed all their weaknesses and would have considerable depth at almost all positions.

The offense would be explosive and the OL would give DB the time he needs, as well as, JJ the creases to get to the second level, which is all he needs.

Offense
QB - Bledsoe, Henson/Romo -
RB - JJ, Barber, Thompson
FB - Sowell
WR - TO, Glenn, Key, Crayton, Copper
TE - Witten, Vernon Davis, Sean Ryan
OT - Flozell, Fabini, Pettiti, Tucker
OG - Hutchinson, Rivera, Peterman, Gurode
C - Mawae, Johnson, Gurode

This defense could become one of the most dominating ever!!

Defense
DE - Ellis, Spears, Canty, Coleman
NT - Ferguson,
OLB - Ware, Arrington, Carpenter,
ILB - James, Burnett, Shanlee, Fowler
CB - TNew, Henry, Glenn, Reeves, Jones
FS - Chavous, Davis
SS - RW, Davis, Beriault

Special teams
K - Longwell
p - McBriar
LS - Ladacour (sp?)

TO--f no
Hutchinson- pipe dream, Seattle isnt going to let him leave
Mawae--old as dirt at 35 and coming off injury
Fabini--almost ditto of Mawae, but if healthy not a bad stop gap
Arrington- f no...one of the most overrated, injury prone players in football
Chavous--not crazy about him
Longwell- like adding him and a possibility
Sowell- dont care one way or another...probably better than what we've had but FB isnt a critical position IMO

Why the hell would we trade 1st/LA/2nd (07), For a TE? We have a franchise tight end. Put the pipe down and step away.

TO: yes (Play maker)
Hutchison: no (isn't he the transition player? We'd have to give up something to get him.
Mawai: he's going to Miami
Fabini: yes (will give us O-line stability for a push to SB)
Arrington: no (doesn't want to be here. Will be with Giants next year)
Chavous: yes (answer to FS play; maybe consider Marcus Coleman)
Longwell: yes (I would rather have Vinatieri, though)
Sowell: maybe (he'd be a great receiver out of the backfield, but don't want to over pay.

I also don't think the boys will trade up to get Davis. I also don't think they'll give up a 2nd round choice next year. It would create a problem because you'd put your No. 1 pick on the bench behind a pro bowler. The only way I would agree with Davis is if they convert him to WR. With that speed, he doesn't need to be on the line.

Is this a joke? Why don't we sign every FA commanding a huge contract, trade away all our picks and draft people we don't need.

This is the salary cap era, you have to build your team through the draft.
