Melton scares me,our cap resourves are meagre and we should not be using them on guys coming off ACL surgeries.I have nothing against Martin but are we really going from drafting a physical freak like Tyron to Martin?.IMO Tyron should be the modern template of tackles who can play on an island with no help at all because they are so damn athletic.
Tyron is physical? He uses the same technique as Martin. Uses his footwork to posistion himself in keeping guys at bay. The physical guys are the 3 interior guys, Leary, Fredrick, Mack

Why would he need to gain 15-20 lbs right away? D Brooks played very good at 226-227, and it wasnt til later in his career naturally he gained more weight and ended his career playing 235. Smith even playing at 223 would be ok. Because of the style of defense the Cowboys use. I dont understand why people are making a big deal about his weight, but dismiss Donalds weight.

Ok then if you have seen Gardner, while he has played inside and he can, he was mostly an outside rusher. Mauro was used more inside because of his strength.

The LBs still have to take on blocks from OLinemen in this defense. Bruce Carter struggled to get off blocks in 2013 so it's definitely an issue to be concerned about with a 218 lb player. A 2nd round pick is a premium pick. You have to pass on a lot of really talented players to take an extremely undersized guy that might or might not be able to play LB and might or might not have to switch to Safety. I just like that risk in the 3rd round much better.

Donald is 288 lbs. The prototype for a Marinelli 3-tech is probably about 295 lbs. Did you see Donald pancake the 343 lb Cyril Richardson or bullrush the 330+ Gabe Jackson?

I thought Gardner was best when moving in a straight line toward the QB. His bend around the outside is nothing special, IMO. I'm sure they could move him around like they did with Wynn in 2013. Use him at 3-tech on passing downs and at SDE on running downs.

Yes but good linebackers can avoid them blocks. Like Brooks did.

I do like the idea of having a top coverage LB even if it means giving up some run stopping ability; however, I just see the 2nd round of this draft as loaded and could easily see Tevin Smith being available in the 3rd.

Interestingly, some draft analysts compare Smith with Wesley Woodyard who is a free agent.

I dont really think they lose much Run support if you move Carter over to the sam. We saw him at his best when he's near the LOS and covering them flats and covering them over the middle passes. Use Smith to cover them Scat Backs and TEs on them seam routes.

When offensive coordinators see a 220 lb LB in the game, they're going to try to find a way to force him to defend the run.

Like I said, it's not that I think he can't play, but a mid 2nd round pick is a premium spot for a player whose size does not fit within the normal range.

Well then he will defend the run. You're making it out like he;s chopped liver. Will he be blocked out some yes. Was Thomas Davis able to convert from a S in college to a LBer in the NFL and have a successful career?

And im guessing size and arm length only matter when theyre not used to judge any player not named donald for you then is what youre saying? Because ive seen you defend Donalds weight and length but now that theres a player with smaller than idea size coming out of college its a issue for you. Typical

And for the record, im not even a fan of Telvin Smith, but i know Marinelli and McClay have talked about adding speed to the defense. Thats the number 1 thing theyre looking at. Speed. And he's graded as a RD2 pick. I dont know why ur so sure about ur scouting skills that you think ur judgement is above those who are paid to do this type of thing.

I've noticed that you can't seem to have a discussion without trying to make it personal. You do it with many other people, not just me.

How am i making it personal? now we cant comment on your posts? You do the same things as everybody else in this forum and post on peoples opinions. Im sorry you didnt like the comment about you going against people who are paid to put grade on players, but you do this alot, and you trying to critique peoples opinions not with facts but your own personal views on players while dismissing grades on players. But theres a saying if you cant accept it, dont dish it out.
