There are still a few other contracts that can be restructured to open up space, such as the Livings one the team hasn't filed yet. So if Dallas wants to sign "cheap" free agents, it can simply by doing that.

Yeah, it looks like a Livings restructure could free up over $1M this year. I'd rather they do any FA signings via either a Spencer or Romo restructure and just leave all the other contracts untouched...keep any future dead money to a minimum. But if it means being able to sign a FA at a reasonable price in this buyers market, and they might lose the chance before a Spencer/Romo deal gets done, then I could see them going for it.

I think that's what they are trying to do. The more they restructure, the more they have to plan future restructures and limit future FA opportunities to meet the salary cap.

You're leaving out the fact that they have to be able to sign the draft picks also.

It sounds like the draft picks would be handled by the cap relief that will happen on June 1 from cutting Spears. xwalker and a couple of others have broken this down in other threads...if I remember right, they should only need around $1.2M to sign the draft class, and the Spears savings give them more than enough to do so.

we have more than 51 contracts over the nfl rookie minimum so the draft picks is a non issue to draft and we have nearly enough from spears to sign all of them. thats a non issue

Plus, we don't know what they will do with Free. Cutting him would open up more than enough money for the draft picks (although the Spears savings already has that covered). Restructuring would open up money now.
