since no FA till a new CBA; and likely no CBA till around June; the draft is the only game in town after the SB. Teams can resign their own players until 1 March. So expect to see a fair amount of that since more than a few players will decided to take what is available now rather than wait who knows how long till the new CBA, and then probably a buyers market.

Draft will be unique this year; no player trading. Only Picks can be traded; and teams will be looking to fill needs with picks rather than FA.

So odds are that FA this year will be somewhat disapointing - teams used to take care of as many needs as they could with FA. Not this year.

Really outside of Mankins there really is not any FA's that are worth getting; if we could get a guard almost as good cheaper I would be happy; but we cannot count on it. So FA will be gravy and nothing else this year.

This can be an advantage to us. We can focus on taking the best players available in the draft then filling in some holes with free agents before training camp. We wont have that pressure of offering free agents contracts so noone else will swoop them up.

How about that cornerback from Oakland ?

Carl Nicks
Davin Joseph
Leroy Harris

These are three guards that I like. The first two will be costly. The third one will not be costly and has upside and he will play at 27. I read a rumor where the Titans might consider moving him to center and moving Amano back to guard. However, Fisher is a lame duck coach right now.

The Cowboys are going to need a C/G in this draft and an OT in this draft. That C/G from Penn State is interesting. I've thought that Dallas would replace Kosier in free agency. However, they may opt to replace him in the draft and could consider replacing Davis in free agency.

Also, I just read Vela. Rob Ryan likes to play off man coverage (with lots of safety help) and base zone coverages (cover 2, 3, 4 or quarters)
Terence Newman will thrive in this system. Newman has played these coverages and the off technique very well during his career. Look for safety to be the major target to upgrade.

When you have drafts like 2009 and early round busts in other drafts, you better hope those first four picks have value (to match the needs) where you pick. I've read that the first round players stop around pick 20-22.

I think Dallas would look to upgrade the D-line in free agency, too.

In a perfect world, you would sign a d-line player and draft one. They need 2 new starters, imo. Again, I will be shocked if Igor Olshansky is on this team next year, shocked.

You would draft a C/G and sign a guard. It would be nice to draft a C/G to start at LG (during his rookie year) and move him over to center his second year. I wonder how the guy from Penn State compares to Unger. He seems like he is better.

You would draft that stud OT from USC at number 9 and start him off at RT. You could draft a DE here, too. This is the problem. There will be at least 2 players here that you like and need. You can only take one. I'm taking the OT.

You would draft a safety and sign a safety.

Black from Florida is an interesting guy.

Watch out for RB in free agency.

It would not shock me if Choice is moved, but I could be wrong.

why will the CBA not get done until june? Was there something announced?

Because when lawyers are involved nothing happens until the last minute.

I dunno, interesting question.

Anyhow, I guess teams cannot sign players until a new CBA. Isn't that right?

That should mean no more ridiculous contract for rookies.

Gets the draft back to what it should be. A helper for bad teams instead of a financial punishment for bad teams.

Reality will set in for the players. They'll fold like always. When the realization of the checks not coming sets in they'll give in.

Smith the Tackle from USC weighs only 280 and talk is he barely holds that weight. No way does a tackle make it in the NFL as a starter at that size. Looking around there is not another starting tackle that is any good that is much under 300. You need heft to stop bull rushers and to stop them from simply tossing you aside.

I was gong to start a thread on this. That the players should know they are already beaten and act accordingly.

They actually got themselves a good deal last time around. A little too good and the owners have been planning and preparng for this opt-out/renogotiation going on three years.

They have the cash and the ongoing TV revenue. Players got nothing.

He is a young kid, only 20 years old. So he can still grown into his body, especially with a good strength and conditioning regimen. He is a good athlete and quick on his feet. Wes Bunting the draft guy seems to think he can start his rookie season.

The talk at USC was that by the bowl game he was down to 270. That won't cut it. If a guy has trouble putting on weight then keeping it on- its like Al Johnson; he had the same problem. Never could put on enough weight then keep it on. Smith has a very lean body type as well. And USC has one of the very best weight and strenghtening programs around. Its not like we are talking a Div 3 school or podunk U.
