I’ll make this short and sweet. The Rams, Chiefs, and 49ers are perfect examples of how to build championship contenders through free agency!!! Two/three years ago everyone said the Rams would live in salary cap hell for a decade because of the way they spend. Haha, they laughed at everyone and doubled down. The Chiefs rebuilt their O-Line in one year through free agency. The 49ers added 10 free agents this past year, including one of the top linemen in the NFL. If you want to win, YOU MUST add top tier free agents.

Or be a beast at drafting and the Cowboys are not that. Good in the 1st, after that? Not so much.

The Bucs did it too last year. Their FA signings got them a Super Bowl and put them in the running for a repeat.

It's funny that Jerry used to love wheeling and dealing in FA back in the day, and then suddenly, he became cheap Mr. Dollar Store.

He was only interested in that for pub that brought, like Owens and Hardy.

I do not think they have a strong enough player evaluation team to do FA correctly. They sure as hell don't internally with their own likable guys.

They have football minds as GMs. We have alcoholics.

S Jones convinced Jerry cheap FA is the only way with short contracts then draft well and sign your own guys to big contracts that you want to keep.

Problem is when you bust draft picks and overpay some of your own guys and then only bargain bin in FA.

S Jones has a unilateral view on paying top tier FA since they made poor choices on some in the past that never worked out, so now he mostly goes cheap on outside FA.

Jerry swung and missed a few times and has become gun shy. Stephen doesn't seem interested in doing things that way so "we like our guys" became the mantra.

I think you are confusing TRADES vs FREE AGENTS.

Draft well and supplement with key FAs

The Rams and Bucs are very unusual situations anyway
  • It's very rare (as in never) that a Brady becomes available via free agency. Gronk went there only due to Brady.
  • The Rams traded for most of their best newcomers (Stafford, Ramsey, Miller) ...but either way, they are a huge exception too.
The 49ers have been drafting well, as have the Bengals.

It's fine if you're afraid to overpay in free agency, but then dont turn around and give ridiculous contracts and structures to your own players who don't necessarily deserve them.

Parcells taught them about "the devil you know" and they've copied that to a fault since.

We did sign a couple free agents, Neal and Kazee from a next to last place Falcons D that most fans on here thought were great signings and Quinn would have them flying high in Big D! PHTTTT!!! And Jerry and Stephen were proud of themselves!!! Now I did like the Hooker signing, but he was coming off a major injury and the dynamic duo are high fiving each other! It is quite comical we go through this every year and keep watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JERRY PLAYING CHECKERS, EVERYONE ELSE PLAYIN CHESS BABY!

More often than not the team that spends the most in free agency is trash. Winning the offseason rarely translates to winning in the season. See the E-Girls 2011 dream team

The problem isn’t paying free agents. The problem is overpaying any players.

We over value our own. We simply will not hold a player to his reasonable market value. That’s why we can’t have nice things.

Spending the most either for other FA's or your own is always a losing proposition.

Its clear S Jones will not go after any FA beyond bargain basement or dumpster diving. Which is moronic but then we are talking the Jones boys.

actually, NO IT DOESNT

2 example's of 32 teams we have seen teams go all in on FA and not even make the playoffs or it worked for a season and not won SB, many many more failures of overspending., heck the NE pats did it for the first time ever spent the most set record for FA and guess what ONER ASMD DONER and we beat them at their stadium. Odd huh.. ..if it were 100% successful key to winning all teams would do it every year you can't buy championships in capped league.

Its one part of the process for sure but good drafts and weve done that is also part of it and then coaching them up etc..the right players not all of them make it work many of those players' rams etc were trades some drafts and others FAs all getting put in the FA bucket..it was not. Like KC OL was some draft some FAs..

nice try but we spend money not a lot on FA but im sure if there were a cant miss and one payer away scenario im sure they would.

Those teams have shown there is a way to dip into FA and not be foolish and stupid like this FO usually is. Its ok to plug up some holes through FA and still depend on the draft. But the FO, and even idiots on this forum even, think it is a big risk. I guess it is with Bozo and Booboo doing the work. You have to know what you are looking for and who you will spend money on. Building mostly through the draft you never finish plugging up holes, every year is another year. Players come and go. Some drafted don't pan out. You gotta do the most each year to win and strengthen your team. Just this duo doesn't know how to do it.
