This has probably come up before, but I wonder why the NFL does'nt design a face mask with nothing that could be grabbed onto ( maybe an extension of the plastic that now covers the eyes).

Most players don't like playing with visors....

I don't know how you would make it work, but definately something worth testing.

I don't know how you would do that without covering up every hole. Then the players would pass out.

say you enclosed the entire face mask with the same type plastic that covers teh visor, the players would have to deal with the face mask fogging up, and then with the running I'm sure it would cause issues with breathing in the carbon dioxide they just exhaled... I mean come on they put warnings on plastic bags to keep kids from playing with them, now you're suggesting NFL players, play with them covering their heads... :laugh2:

Well, the thing could be designed to have holes small enough to not allow a grip but large enough for ventilation. Most anything wold be better that the current bars that protrude and say "grab me".

I don't think the visor would give them the same strength that the facemask gives them. There is a metal bar inside that face mask to give it strength.

One last comment. Space age plastics are incredibly strong and resilient. I'm not talking about Junior's plastic toy. And a metal bar could even be embedded in the material, below the eyes.

Regardless the design the holes being that small would impact a players vision to some degree.

I guess if you can come up with this then you could be a rich man.

NFL has done a good job over the years of providing good protective gear and always looking at things to help reduce injury.
