Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin had surgery Thursday to repair a fracture to a facial bone he suffered when Jets defensive back Eric Smith drilled him on Sunday.

But while surgery for a broken facial bone sounds serious, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt sounded optimistic that Boldin would return sooner rather than later.

“The doctor felt like it would give him the quickest chance to get back,” Whisenhunt said, per the Arizona Republic.

The doctor who performed the surgery on Boldin said he knew of a hockey player who underwent the same procedure and was playing 10 days later. Boldin has been ruled out for the Cardinals’ game tomorrow against the Bills, but there’s a chance he could be back for Week 6 against the Cowboys or, more likely, Week 8 against the Panthers after the Cardinals’ Week 7 bye.

Ouch. I could not believe Boldin came away from that in decent shape after seeing the replay on TV. Vicious play.

Reminds me of the Darren Woodson hit. This is football and you go deep over the middle you get hit.

Were talking about Hockey Players here comming back from this injury...

IMHO they dont make them much tougher than Hockey Players :)

How many times Ive seen Players take a puck or stick to the face....and they stitch it up and are back on the ice

:)

Saw Ronnie Francis rookie year circa 1982/83 for Whalers in front of crease take a puck off forehead deflected in for a goal. They had to bring shovels out to clean off all the blood. He missed one shift and was back out. GREAT player.

That hit was bad enough that it's made Kurt Warner start discussing retirement.

I didn't see it, but it must have been pretty bad.

It was bad. Anytime a player's body goes limp from a hit, you hold your breath. What's crazy is that I didn't see the hit in live action as I disgustingly turned the game off at halftime.
