Falcons Cut Ed Hartwell and Ike Reese

FALCONS CUT A PAIR

The Atlanta Falcons have cut LB Edgerton Hatwell and LB Ike Reese.

​

Both were signed as unrestricted free agents in 2005.

​

Hartwell was signed through 2010, and he was scheduled to earn $2.87 million in base salary this season. Reese was under contract through 2008. He was due to make $940,000 in base salary this year.

​

Since both were released on the first day of the league year, it's possible that the Falcons took advantage of the rule that treats the move as a June 2 transaction, thereby spreading the cap hit from any remaining bonus money over two years.​

Cut Hartwell already? I wonder if that's an injury thing, because he played pretty well back when the Ravens used to run the 3-4.

Hartwell was a stud in Baltimore when Ray Lewis was hurt. I believe he played inside on a 3-4 in Baltimore.

If Hartwell was injuried the last two season i would say sign him i wanted him 2 years ago when he was a FA.

hartwell missed 8 games (I think that's right) in the first half of 2006, after coming off a pair of knee repairs. He played well in the second half of 2006. I remember wanting him in Dallas prior to Atlanta signing him.

Hartwell was always hurt here in Atlanta and he was dreadful in pass coverage
