Falcons gameplan with Julio Jones

If I was the HC of this team, I would study the Falcons gameplan today, i would find a way to use Dez ( when he gets back) the same way the Falcons used Julio today on us. actually the way the Falcons have used him this season, Julio has been lights out.

With no pass rush whatsoever Matty "Ice" had enough time back there to call his grandmother. No pass rush and a secondary that was exposed and im not at all surprised with the results.

If I were the Cowboys, I would take note of how the Falcons scored more points than us today and try to replicate that concept of scoring more points than the opponent. Seems to lead to a win

Falcons had some nice quick strikes to Julio, also the last TD where he ran behind the line to catch the pass for a TD was nice.

I think the OP meant that we should use Dez the same way that they use Julio.

We don't scheme that way. Jason Garrett has never done anything like that.

What does that have to do with how they used Julio? This entire season they've lined him up all over the field, send him in motion, get him the ball in space and do it quickly. He's not running long developing routes like Dallas does with Dez. They get Julio in space and let him be a playmaker. People have been saying that's what they wanted from Dez for years.

Atlanta's whole offense looks to revolve around Julio. I agree with you that we should use Dez like that... I said that after watching Julio week 1 against the Eagles. They look for multiple ways to get him the ball, and we just never do that with Dez unless we're in the redzone throwing him the back shoulder fade.... which is good but we need to use him all over the field. Put him in the slot, have him catch screen passes, and just flat out target him more. Guys like Julio and Dez are open even when they don't appear to be.... we have to take advantage of that more.

Yep. We are just content with Dez being a decoy and that, IMO, is a criminal waste of his talent.

Garrett fanboys will point to overall season production. They don't care about scheme either.


We've needed to be more dynamic for years but it's just not going to happen and it's just not even worth talking about because Garrett has Bill Belicik Job security.

That kind of play has got Matt Ryan in trouble in the past. He locks on Julio Jones a lot and he gets picked off because of it. Some teams just DO a piss poor job at defending it.. look at us. Everybody knew they would target Julio yet we did absolutely nothing. It was strange to watch.

Romo is usually the center of the offense, they want him to control the game and spread it around a la Brady or Rodgers. Which is fine, I think he's deserving of that role. But Dez is too good to not be more of a focus, they treat him like another guy in the offense, except in goal line situations.

Julio and dez are different type of receivers. Yes they are both big, tall #1 receivers but julio is faster and more explosive. Dez is a better jumper/leaper. I also think julio is a better route runner although many here will disagree
