He was signed last season to a 5 yr 27 million deal. He made his name the season the Vikings went on the playoff run and he absolutely dominated Doug Free in the playoff game. He was a bigger threat than Jared Allen. For whatever reason he did absolutely nothing in Atlanta. He tallied 3.5 sacks in 18 games for them.

That's nuts. He basically won that game against us on his own.

Wonder what happened?

Biermann just took his spot and he was only limited to passing downs.

They expected Edwards to be this missing piece for an average DL when he really was a good player on a great DL in Minn.

Doug Free? Thought it was a crippled Marc Columbo.

e.g.

The strategy worked until Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards raced past right tackle Marc Colombo and stripped the ball from Romo. The Vikings recovered at their 35-yard line and averted an early Cowboys score.

Considering that we lost Flo Adams some time later, I'd suspect that Doug Free was playing against Jared Allen. My memory isn't *that* good though.

With Coleman out, I wouldn't mind having Edwards in his place.

Me too. If the guy is capable of that game against us in the playoffs, I want him on my team.

The Boys seem more than willing to give veterans second and third chances. Sims, Robinson, Fiametta etc...Why not Edwards? Mix in some more 4-3 with him in there.

I would think he's too small to be a DE in our 3-4 but is he fluid enough and stout enough against the run to take Anthony Spencer's spot? Probably not.

Would he come cheaper than Spencer?

No! Why does every player released have to be considered the next Cowboy?

We just lost a key rotation DE for the year, somebody has to fill the void.

Lissemore will be back, we still have Spears and Crawford. Youth, baby.

Edwards looked alot better on the Vikings Dline which had Jared Allen, Pat Williams, and Kevin Williams. He was facing one one one matchups with regularity while teams had to concentrate on Allen (who is just as good as Ware) and Williams (who was slightly below Ratliff). I have a feeling that Spencer will sign for some money and end up just like his former teammate. Without a future hall of famer and probowl DT, Spencer will not be able to generate much pressure.

When did I say anything about him being the next Cowboy?

He would come cheaper than Spencer but he doesn't play the run well which is why he wasn't an every down rusher this year.

Incorrect, if the folks in Atlanta are telling the truth. He was a good run defender. He was axed because they were paying him 27 mill to rush the passer, which he wasn't able to do.

It's also possible that Ray wasn't a particularly good body type for the hybrid defense (4-3 sometimes, 3-4 sometimes) Mike Nolan installed. I notice ML sized up the line quite a bit when he could (playing Peria Jerry plenty).

That is correct but I was making a comparison to Spencer. If you are saying Edwards is a better defender than Spencer, I say nooo. Incorrect about the 27 mil to rush the passer. He was an every down LE last year. He just wasn't making an impact on both the run and the pass.

You don't have to because the thread was created, that's all we needed for the rumors to start swirling.
