I love to keep harping on this--for all you who criticize the firing of Steve Hoffman. (The, oh if we'd kept him we wouldn't need a "name" kicker, routine.) Well, his protege at Atlanta isn't doing so well, so the Falcons have now signed.....get ready for it....Morten Andersen. Yes.

I wanted to sign Andersen last year, he surely couldn't have done any worse than Cortez and Cundiff.

Vanderjagt hired Hoffman last year, and you can see all the good that did.

I've kinda envied these old timer kickers that have played forever,,, what a cushy life, eh?

meanwhile, looks like another team is destined to dress two kickers,,, I noticed that Denver dresses two as well.

Wasn't atlanta using one kicker for Punts, FG's and Kickoffs? I know at the game the other day he was doing great in Warm-up's and has one hell of a leg.... The bucs kicker on the other hand couldn't hit the broad side of a barn......

Atlanta's kicker missed 4 field goals in that game. Well, I think one was blocked.

I'm with you.

Hoffman hasn't done dookie. He did what almost every team in the league has done, turned undrafted guys into starting PKs. Of course, he did it in Dallas and with 400 beat writers looking for stories, he was bound to get too much credit.

Yes from what I read the PUNTER beat out the kickers they had in camp.

So why didn't Hoffman's magic touch work with those kickers?

Koenen isn't his protege. He's the handpicked choice of the Falcons and the GM. Prior to Hoffman's arrival in Atlanta they dumped a 92% kicker in 2005, Todd Peterson.

Let's get he facts straight here and not post LIES!!!

...were of relatively poor quality. Not good enough to make other team's rosters. The big five they brought in for the open kicking competition was E.J. Cochrane, Zac Derr, Tony Yelk, Seth Marler and Carlos Martinez.

Don't break out your wallets for these quality recruits.

Alot of Atlanta's problems would have disappeared had they stayed with Peterson.

Oh you mean they weren't like the quality recruits Hoffman enlisted here... Tim Seder, Richie Cunningham, Billy Cundiff, etc. etc.?:rolleyes:

The point isn't who was who's "protege," it's that Steve Hoffman is overrated by Dallas fans, and I agree.

...winning football games. Atlanta's kicking woes have nothing to do with Hoffman because they already had a kicker they could have signed and had a track record much better than what they were pursuing.

So first, it is peritinent who's protege it is because some people are spinning arguments to serve their purposes.

And second rating Hoffman with his Atlanta record as an extension of his Dallas work is not appropriate in this case given the existing factors in the Atlanta organization.
