My 13th birthday was on Friday the 13th. I was afraid something bad was going to happen to me.

I believe Friday the 13th didn't become considered unlucky until King Philip IV of France tried to steal the Knight's Templar's money by declaring them religious criminals and basically had them put to death. The order to have them arrested were sealed and went out, but were not to be opened (and subsequently executed) until Friday October 13 in 1307. (hence, Friday the 13th) That day was basically the day of judgment for the Knight's Templar.
The funny thing is, Jacques De Molay (leader of the Templar's) with his last words cursed King Phillip and Pope Clement V declaring they would both die before year's end. They did, and that just added to the power of the Friday the 13th superstition.
