Dan Quinn over- achieved relative to the talent on the roster early this season and most of last season.

The bad games on defense are due to the players playing at their actual talent level as a group. Quinn can't scheme away a lack of talent in all games.

Anthony Barr played over 90% of snaps in the Jax game...no other team wanted him at this point in his career. Barr can't outrun Jason Peters in a footrace.

Wilson is an average Safety that Quinn schemed to look like a very good Safety in some games. Same for Kearse.

DT Watkins is playing extensive snaps as the starting 1tech DT.

The 4th and 5th CBs are starting now and we don't know who is the 5th CB.

Quinn got 8 sacks from Armstrong...

I agree the personnel is flawed and there are injuries. The DT play has been at best average for far too long and is a big problem IMO. However other teams seem much more capable of overcoming injuries than the Cowboys, and there are always going to be injuries.

I agree. People can sit back and scream "NEXT MAN UP!" all they want, but outside of DE the Cowboys dont have depth on defense. They have some interesting projects in the secondary and LB spots, but clearly no one ready to step in to replace LVE, Brown, and to some extent Hankins.

DQ put a scheme together that allowed this defense to create total chaos with an extremely athletic group of pass rushers, and eventually that scheme got exposed. Now we started to see them flip to more of an emphasis on run defense, but lost their best NT and MLB. Combine that with being limited on what coverages you can run with the CB situation and it's now a lot to overcome. Good news is we should be getting at least a couple of these guys back for the postseason.

I would add once Micah Parsons got wore down enough, the other guys are not getting the pressures anymore.
They backed off pass rush to improve run defense. Far less stunts since the Packers game.

Parsons does not have a full go to jump inside on all snaps because he is required to set the edge unless it's 3rd and long.

So what you’re saying is that the GM put up an average roster, and hasn’t addressed the biggest weakness the “run defense” that has hindered post-season success for 5 years.

It's a bit if both.

Wilson showed playmaker ability before Quinn arrived. Injury seems to be what holds him back every year.

Also barr turned down contracts and picked the Cowboys. Not saying been good or worth it, because he hasn't.

I think it's a bit of both scheme and talent.

Probably some truth to this. Maybe we overrated the talent based on it overachieving.
Parsons and Diggs are the only elite talents on defense. Clark and Bland might be in that category next year.

The Cowboys must add at least 1 elite player for next year. Preferrably at DT but a truly elite player at any position would be a huge improvement.

I would say sort of. I think with the number of injuries I don't have much confidence in the run defense getting better. Assuming both LVE and Hankins are back for the playoffs I think this team is capable of playing solid run defense though. The trio of LVE, Hankins, and Clark on the field seemed to be a good one...at least for the short stint they were all healthy.

By any measuring stick Dan Quinn is a top tier DC coaching some banged up troops. If fans don’t think this is an improvement over Marinelli and Rob Ryan your not paying attention .

Having said that I think both corners taken in the 21 draft in rounds 2&3 which are premium picks were in large part “ Dan picks “ . He went out of his way to see Wright over in Oregon pre draft . With Browm and Lewis gone these picks are being exposed .

How bad can Jabril Cox be if Barr who looks at times like he’s running in a swimming pool , if # 14 can’t see PT ?

I agree with all but Donovan Wilson. He flashed special even when Nolan was DC. He’s a good one.

Barr has been a huge disappointment.

Have a link or supporting evidence? It’s ok to have an opinion of your own of course. But this post seems to imply Dan Quinn is sending a message to fans. Maybe he did say it, but I doubt he gives a rats behind what any of us think, lol. Would be helpful if you had some kind of evidence though.
No. My entire thread was code for calling you a goof.
Leave out the insults.
