is the largest data mining org in the world. now they're wanting my mobile to prove it's me. Well they can go get stuffed!!! I shouldn't need to tell you that they're getting facial recognition data from your photos and giving them to spy entities worldwide. I'm totally blocked from logging in. THEY DID ME A FAVOUR!! I also shouldn't need to mention their Stasi censorship.
(waits for the first sheople to tell me it's not a big deal and I'm being paranoid LOLOL)

I use it. Got an account when I retired to keep up with my family in Mexico. It expanded to former players. I had over 500 of them reach out on my birthday.....some I haven't seen in over 30 years. Pretty cool.
I'm not paranoid.....

Somewhere along the way, FB decided that it needed not just a very large user base, but a tremendous one, unprecedented in size. That decision set FB on a path to escape velocity, to a tipping point where it can harm society just by existing. And, in doing so, it allows the worst parts of humanity to go viral.

FB is an agent of government propaganda, targeted harassment, terrorist recruitment, emotional manipulation, and genocide a world historic weapon that lives not underground, but in a Disneyland-inspired campus in Menlo Park, California. No one company, or person, should retain so much power.

FB’s mega scale gives Zuckerberg an unprecedented degree of influence over the global population. If he isn’t the most powerful person on the planet, he’s very near the top. It's a trap for personal info that many fell for. Once it's out there, it's out there for good!
Well said and spot on!! 1984 has arrived.:hammer:

I made an account several years ago, just to make it easier to share pictures online. The next morning I had "friend requests" from people I didn't want to hear from. I deleted my account that day, and that's the only social media (other than this forum and the previous one) I've ever used.

Left them years ago and really only use google (monopoly trap) as far as big tech, social media is concerned. Social media in this country is run by dubious tech magnates who are hopelessly bias and partisan. They exercise an extremely dangerous level of control over us and their motives are highly suspect to say the least.

Hear, hear and Zuckerberg and Gates share a trait, they are both thieves. Zuckerberg stole the Facebook idea from classmates and Gates stole the Microsoft idea from IBM when they decided to postpone that move.

I think they need to take a much harder look at the people they've allowed this amount of power; however, they're still behind on the super rich that have been trying to run this country and world for decades.

The best 3 words for anyone venturing into the world of social media is "Trust No One".

This site is the only social media I use, and it can get rather anti-social at times, and it is all I need.

I've been dealing with some health issues recently and one of my family members chastised me for not being on Facebook and letting them know. I told her "use that phone for something besides social media and you would have known".

That's my problem with social media, besides the built in allowance for meanness, and it is getting to be the same with texting. Doesn't anyone want to talk anymore? Are we machines? We have a mouth and ears and that's 3 to 2 over the hands. We are raising a generation of human communication challenged people.

Besides that, think of the personal issue. Say you do something naughty the night before and feel the need to purge a little of that. You tell your friend that and maybe only a few people will know. You text it and the world might know. Do what you will, me hearties, but stay in control of the evidence.

Both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates stole the idea of GUI from Xerox Alto..... Bill Gates paid someone to reverse engineer Garry killdall's CP/M operating system and sold it as DOS(Dirty Operating System )....... the rest is history.

It is always going to be something.

If it is not facebook it is google, instagram or some other social media.
It is most cell phones, laptops and tech that can capture images or audio.
It could be any of the companies that are cell phone carriers (att and so on)
It is the DMV
It is if you get a passport.
It is if you work for most government agencies directly or indirectly.
It is most banks.
It is most hospitals
It is most credit card companies.
Most larger towns and cities with traffic cameras
It is most business with security cameras.

You would have to be a really rare individual who happened to have all of their history originally on paper and had all of that paper burned or destroyed (from multiple areas) before anything was transferred to digital. Then you would never have a passport, credit card, drivers L, tax records and so on while at the same time living off grid so you had no utility bills to pay...that would be a rare individual that is somehow not in the system or in some shape or form being tracked.

So if you are pinning your hopes on just not using facebook as helping your cause of anonymity and privacy...you better think again.

However i will say to the OPs point about phone number. I remember them posting messages or pop ups to ask for your phone number for Security Reasons. That just made me laugh. Don't even have to have your phone number as I get some people calling me through facebook. Could not figure out why my phone was playing some weird ringtone or sound as it was not my normal ringtone. Comes up as a friend on facebook.

I hear the argument about Facebook. And I understand the concern. But I think @BrAinPaiNt makes some good points too.

We can tracked at all times

our credit cards or debit cards
Cell phones

every single building you go to has cameras nowadays.

not just businesses but a lot of homes do too. Like those “Ring” doorbells that people use. Has a camera on the front of the house and sends a video feed to their cell phone or whatever.

you can’t even walk down the street of your neighborhood nowadays without being video tapes.

shoot most roads and intersections have cameras on them nowadays also.

The only privacy you have is inside your own home. That’s it. And that’s if you turn your cell phone off.

Telegram is pretty good. I enjoy it. They do a great job with privacy. Also a great place for furries like me to hang out in private chats and group chats.

Your phone gives the government metadata that doesn't require a warrant. They can see the places you go and map out your entire footprint.
