Look at the elite TEs and where they were drafted.

Now go look at all the first round selected TEs and tell the draft experts to come apologize to me.
It's all about accumulating the best talent. If the vast majority have Mayer and/or Kincaid in the first and Washington not far off, this is either an indication of their talent....or about the lack of potential in the rest of the draft.
Pick the player, not the position.

Not a lot of depth after the 3rd guy on any team, so it seems. Look at SF, they have 3 top WR's and really no one after that. But they have Kittle and use the RB's effectively.
But WR's will be taken regardless. Deep or not deep in the draft. Teams will select them.
Thats deep!

I’m all for Kincaid because he’s an elite playmaker as a receiver.

Mayer will be good. Perhaps really good. But I don’t see his production being significantly better than the guy we already have if both are given the same opportunity.

The draft has proven time and time again that TE is not a position you need to invest a high pick in and in fact it turns out bad more times then not with these guys.

I think we already got a guy who can produce as well as anyone in this class in both of those departments.

Kincaid is likely going to just be a WR like Kelce that we pretend is a TE.
I'd take a "Kelce" in a heartbeat over any WR in this draft. Give me Any of the top 3 TEs and thats going to help our offense more this next year than any WR who would be a special teams player and #4 WR. And no, we did do not have a TE on the roster who can fill Shultz's shoes.

26 isn't a high pick. Most drafts don't have 26 players with first round grades.
