Fast starts

One of my pet peeves is how slow dallas starts and how generally futile most opening drives are.

Since 2009 (50 games). Dallas has scored on the first drive 12 times. Less than 25% of the time do we come out and have a successful plan/ execute well /etc. after focusing on those plays for the week. This may be not far from league average, but I think good teams (NO, GB,) seem to score quick

Here are the games and final scores when we score first

2009
1. New Orleans (undefeated) - 24-17
2. Washington - 14-0
3. Philly - 24-0

2010
4. New York - LOSS 41-35 - Game that ended Romos season. Controlled game until then
5. Lions - 35-19
6. Indy - 38-35
7. Philly - Loss 30-27. Philly scored first points (TD) on opening drive of the game. Dallas score tied it

2011
8. NYJ - LOSS 27-24 Blew 14pt fourth qtr lead
9. Det - LOSS 34-30 Blew 24 pt 3rd qtr (13pt 4th qtr) lead
10. Rams - 34-7
11. Buff - 44-7
12. Tampa - 31-15

Record 8-4, 4 losses include a Romo IR, 2 historic collapses and the other we "technically"didnt get the opponent in the hole.

Avg score - 30pts per game.

I'd settle for coming out and running some simple plays with some simple cadences just to not turn the ball over or get backed up with penalties.

AMEN. The strength of this team is the defense. Defer to the second half. Kick-off, make them punt and the Cowboys offense will probably start with decent field position.

Elect to recieve, let Felix take opening kickoff 8 yards deep in the end zone and run it out to the 12, have two false starts, a dropped pass by Witten, a two-yard run on a Murray draw, a holding penalty, a three-yard pass to Dez, and punt the ball to the opponent giving them the ball around mid-field. Makes the game more challenging that way.
