Just my opinion, but for me rock n roll is more uptempo. I don't consider his early hits rock n roll. Don't get on me, just my opinion. And yes, I love early rock n roll. Elvis, Ritchie Valens, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, etc.

And he was better and more established and more of a jet setter than all you cited except Elvis, for sure, and maybe Berry and Lewis.

Valens and Holly aren’t in his league. Not even close, bro.

More blues than jazz but def not rock and roll.

From 1955-1960 only Elvis sold more records and had more top 10 hits.
Can’t disagree, 65.

Was trying to be nice to our pal. But you’re absolutely right.

Fats was definitely more Jazz, and a lot more blues than rock n roll.

What a true, damned talent.

To put him in the same breath as Valens and Holly is way, way off. No disrespect to Valens and Buddy, but it’s almost an insult. Like comparing Muddy Waters to Ben Folds

Hell, he wasn’t even in the same genre as Berry, Lewis, and the King, but at least they shaped music like he did (especially Elvis and Berry).

Fats was a jet setter and innovator. Every last sense of both definitions.

RIP dear soul. We’re losing too many of the all time greats. The innovators.

Yeah, neither Richie Valens nor Buddy Holly were around long enough to create the legacy that Fats has or had. By the time of their plane crash Fats was already in his early 30's and the experience showed in his music.

Always thought Jerry Lee was over-rated.

Yup. Ritchie was a great rock n roll artist, put some Americanized-Latin feel in the genre, and Holly was on to a great career, but he died too soon.

Holly would have been amazing, but he wasn’t given the chance. Just wasn’t. But he would’ve been almost as influential as Berry, IMO. Well, not quite, but still an all-timer with audiophiles. And Berry and Elvis are rock n roll Gods, so I don’t use that statement lightly.

Lewis, for me, isn’t overrated (except in this thread). He tore up a piano and made rock n roll fun. Too bad he was a child molester. But so was Polanski and Allen. Par for the course of that era? Sickening.

Holly did die too soon, indeed, Mike. He had the potential for greatness. Valens hit his apex, imo. Would’ve been a singles monster and nothing more. Lewis was a jet-setter of sorts, but not a Fats, Elvis, or Berry

You could sense Holly was turning the corner when he moved to NYC and cut "True Love Ways" which was a big departure from his hill-billy rock roots. It would have been interesting to see what he would have become.

Too me Jerry Lee was better performer than singer. Only had a couple of hits which IMO hurts his legacy... That and the other stuff you brought up.
