Well, Braveheart is still my favorite movie, so I don't really hold who he is against his acting, but the actor is the person, and it's a bit harder to think of him without thinking of his rant. I'll still watch his movies and enjoy them, but any interviews and that type of thing I'm less likely to watch.

Do you think one of the driving forces for some of these actors, especially the ones with demons, was the chance to portray someone else? I know some have said they really enjoy the bad guy roles and that doesn't seem to be their persona. It seems like it's "I wanna be anyone but me". I think that's why some are so prolific, it's like you can't get away from seeing them, they'd prefer to act through life.

I recall an interview with DeNiro when he talked about his friends not wanting to be around him when he was filming Raging Bull and he said what concerned him was how easy he slipped into Jake LaMotta. He realized he had that in him once he released it.

favorite line..."you work your side of the street...and i'll work mine".

favorite scene that cemented McQueen's coolness for me...of course it was the car chase scene.
his expression during that iconic scene...classic McQueen.

favorite moment not often remembered...was when he went to the store to get his groceries...went to the frozen food section...and just went assembly line style...stackin'm....then after he got home...just shoved them into the freezer.
only McQueen could make that otherwise throw-away scene look so cool.

i LOVE Shane.
such a great story.
and i love the way Alan Ladd played that character.
his own man.
never in a hurry.
didnt care what you thought...he had made peace with who he was.
and the moment in that film that makes me sit up and take notice....is the finale.
the moment Shane saddles up to face-off with Jack Palance in that epic saloon shoot-out....with the music...was just perfect.
and the gun fight scene is why i love westerns...and Shane's moment at the end with Joey...is why if Alan Ladd is in it...I gotta watch it.

That said, again. Picking a favorite is subjective even to myself. It really depends on my current mood. Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Joe Pesci, even as much as I dislike him as a person, Tom Cruise. All of these guys have many many incredible movies. My mood would determine which is my favorite at any given moment.

EDIT: Matt Damon made a bunch of great movies too.

Actor: Denzel Washington. I am kinda torn between Private Trip in Glory and Washington's title performance in Malcolm X. Both were great roles.

Actress: Sigourney Weaver. This was the harder choice. There are a lot of standout performances by female actresses but it would be Weaver's work as Ripley in Alien and Aliens I if I settled upon one that I love to the core. To this day, for me and only me, I would still vote Weaver as Ripley in Aliens as Best Actress over Kathleen Turner (Peggy Sue Got Married), Jane Fonda (The Morning After), Sissy Spacek (Crimes of the Heart), and winner Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God). Fittingly, Brie Larson and Gal Gadot said it best when they were co-presenters with Weaver at last Sunday's Oscars that Weaver paved the way for the female action movie heroes after her. I have said the same thing for decades.

Don't know about favorite, but some I admire that do not always get the recognition of bigger name stars.

Always liked Gary Oldman. Although I liked him Dracula, The Professional and a number of other roles...His role of Drexl the pimp in True Romance was awesome.

Shaun of the Dead actors - Three actors I like from that movie Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Bill Nighy. I liked Simon and Nicks movies when they are together. I have liked Bill Nighy for many roles in Pirates of Carribean, Underworld, Pirate radio and others.

Glenn Howerton - Sunny in Philly, with his crazy self. How he made a sociopath funny is beyond me.

Then did Rounders and played a card shark/degenerate as best as you could.
Then American History X kind of sealed it.
Heard he's a jerk too lol. Seems like a common trend with good actors unf.

Actress would be Charlize Theron from Monster.

I never saw him not give a great performance, even if I didn't care for the film like Phantom Thread. Hey, we need a Phantom Thread here, I am surprised Reverend Conehead hasn't created that yet.

Gary Oldman & Milla Jovovich - Fifth Element. I was blown away it was Gary Oldman(at first) and became more fascinated in his roles.

Agree 100% on Weaver, and the role. I don't think I've ever seen someone truly look believably terrified the way she did in the third movie, when the alien went face to face with her.

The thing about Oldman that I love is that for some reason, with each new role, he looks familiar, but I just don't realize it's him at first. It's an odd phenomenon.
