I see the thread for favorite guitar players so I figured why not a favorite bassist thread...
My list:
Les Claypool
Tim Commerford
Justin Chancellor
John Paul Jones

Cliff Burton
Geddy Lee

Pretty much the only three guys that made me stop and say "well no one else is doing that". There are tons of great bass players in the world but those three stand alone, for me.

Don't know if I have a favorite bass player.
The ones mentioned already are pretty good.

Always liked hearing bass lines playing behind some dual guitars in Irons Maiden so let me give Steve Harris some love.

Lemmy although his sounded like a massive distorted guitar.

Two bass ayers that should be listed in ANY bass players list.....

Jaco Pastorius

Bootsy Collins - James Brown AND P Funk.... Mic drop

Good calls on Steve Harris and Lemmy.

Loved Harris for his technique and Lemmy for his tone. That dude's rig sounded like a pissed off locomotive coming right at your face.

I wasn't even thinking about Lemmy! I loved him too. He was kicking *** and taking names all the way up until he checked out.:yourock:

Geddy Lee sucks. All of rush sucks. There are (and were) many great bass players out there, but anything Rush doesn't belong in any "best of" list.

John Paul Jones - Zeppelin
John Entwistle - Who
Jack Bruce - Cream
Flea - Chili Peppers
Lemmy - Motorhead (The bass line on Iron Horse may be the best I've ever heard)

Jerry Scheff played bass for The Doors album L.A. Woman. Jim was excited to learn he was getting Elvis' bass player for the session.
