my favorite eras were basically these 3: (1977 being the first year I watched NFL)

1977-1979...... as a kid I became a Cowboys fan. Staubach was my favorite QB, though in the peripheral I was aware of how dominant the Steelers was. I liked the Steelers too, and I felt like that epic 1978 Super Bowl was my favorite Super Bowl of all time at that point. We allowed the Steelers to just jump several scores ahead of us after a good start - and then the fumble squib kinda hurt. After Staubach retired, that was the end of football for me at that time. I went into hiding and became more of a basketball fan shortly after. I watched some games and usually always watch the Super Bowl, but I vaguely remember that entire era from 1980-1995. I mean, I know what happened and what the stories were - but just didn't have the same enthusiasm I had of the NFL from 1977-1979. The rise of San Francisco, Washington, and a new edition Raiders felt different from the NFL that I knew.

1996-1998..... 1996 was a such a huge year for me, for sports. Jordan comes back and they spawn my favorite basketball team of all time. Favre becomes king of football. It's the year he broke out, and I knew he was gonna win the Super Bowl. 1997 I was rooting for Elway just because I felt he was always the bridesmaid but never the bride. I'm glad he got his Super Bowl... those Broncos teams were really fun to watch. And after Elway retired, there ends another era for me, and I go into another 16 year hiatus. Very very strangely.... the Rams, the Patriots, and the Ravens would very soon rise up and I just lost interest. Those were teams that during the 90s were like..... huh? who were they?

2015-2016, 2019-2021 - I just liked the 2015 Broncos. I felt like that was the team that resurrected the Broncos I loved in the late 90s. Manning's last rodeo, and that dominant defense. It was the ideal team, an elite QB with an all-time great defense. Just a great narrative. 2016 I liked mostly because I felt like it should've been us against the Falcons in the NFC. If the Falcons blew that 25 point lead, there's no way we would blow a lead like that because Dak doesn't just take a dumb sack late like Ryan. 2016 is probably a Top 5 all time Cowboys team for me, and that loss was on Garrett's conservative field goal kicking calls all the way. 2017 I tuned off again because it made me sick to see Carson Wentz rise up, and his team go all the way. I came back in 2019 tho and I'm pretty sure 2021 will be an all-time favorite NFL year for me... since i'm now a full fledged Cowboys and Dak Prescott fan though it took me until 2019 to fully be convinced that we are gonna win a Super Bowl soon with our offense!

Wow! We must be around the same age because this is right up my alley!! I became a fan in '77 and around this time I developed my hate for the Steelers until this day!! My favorite era was the '90's. '95 was redemption for me!! The BEST Super Bowl parties EVER!! Great post.

The best of times was when we had the AFL and the NFL. So many legends back then. hell....Jim Brown

You never forget....

Old school but back in the 60’s & 70’s you had maybe a handful of games on TV in a 14 game season . And it was Sunday & Monday night football , no Thurs no Saturday’s . It was special . Today with 17 games plus the market flooded with Akron vs Midd Tenn state type college on ESPN ….ABC had Dandy Don and Cosell and one Monday night they had the Browns on with a WR named Fair Hooker , Meredith was hilarious

When I do my fav football names I always leave Fair Hooker for last, how cool is that.....Fair Hooker, he was also a hurdler at Arizona State.

Saturday we had at least 3 college games, then on Sunday the AFL and the NFL so we had some options, then in 1970 MNF.

*shrugs* I haven't exactly been able to have one since I started watching at the very end of the 1999-2000 season, and the Cowboys haven't been good since I started watching. I haven't really got one. I guess when Romo took over? That was when I started to have hope for this team.

Curt Gowdy did the AFL back in the 60’s was also a great baseball announcer when NBC did the “ game of the week “ on Saturday’s . No one I can think of did a great job on both football and baseball like Gowdy .

Not a baseball fan but have heard Gowdy yep, he was great.

NFL - '85 to '96. Who doesn't love the '85 Bears? And then the NFC East dominance started the next year, with our Boys wrapping up the dominance in '95-'96 and beating every team that had our number in previous years like the Packers, 49ers and Steelers. Even the Eagles in some of those years looked like they were going to a Super Bowl. Great years for people who appreciated tough smashmouth football. Bears, NYG, WAS, and our Boyz. Oh yeah, and that slouch the 49ers had their best years too.
