I just picked up the Star Wars Original Trillogy this weekend after watching the movies several times over the last few months on TV. Which of the six Star Wars movies is your favorite and why?

I'll go first and vote Empire because it's got a darker tone to it than the original movie and Jedi do. Revenge of the Sith was the best of the prequel trilogy in my eyes.

The Empire Strikes Back is one of my top 5 favorite movies, so I'll go with that.

Empire Strikes Back. Hands down.

V > IV > VI > I > III > II

The prequels were pretty close to being terrific, but each one suffers a fatal flaw that kills it for me. i.e. Jar Jar Binks in I, the excessive romantic dialogue in II, and that uber gay reaction when Darth Vader believes he's killed Padme.

I'd still go see any sequels...

Im still irked over the title changes and not making Star Wars the first. I realize it would then put it out of place with the prequels. I guess Im just used to seeing the movies in their respective order.

In a mildly related note, the Family Guy "star wars" episode is funny as hell. I hope they go through with their plans to make an episode for all six movies.

The original will always be my favorite because well it was the first one. :D

I enjoyed all of them.

Bought the Family Guy episode this weekend as well. The whole couch bit had me rolling on the floor.

I'm a little torn on my top 2. For most of my life Jedi was my favorite. I've since come around a lot more on Empire. Empire is definately a better crafted movie, but Jedi has always just been more entertaining to me. So...

VI, V, III, IV, II, I is my order.

The simplicity and great pacing of A New Hope (which will always be Star Wars to me) will always put it above any of the other movies. ESB was too dark, and ROTJ was too lazy from the point of view of the direction and scripting. None of the prequels are even close.

Pacing is the reason A New Hope is so low on my list. It had the same awful pacing of Episode 1.

As someone who saw the original Star Wars in the theater when it first came out, you are out to lunch as regards pacing.

Same here.

I still remember seeing it in the theater as a lad.

It reaffirms my faith in humanity to see no votes for I and II and only one vote for III.

As wonderful as all three of the old ones were, the new ones are absolutely awful. It's difficult to believe that the same person was responsible for all six of them.

I voted for IV simply because it was the original and set everything in motion. But I loved V and VI as well.

The recent 3 are some of my least-favorite movies of all time.
