Favorite Thanksgiving Day Cowboys Game memory

It has to be the Garrett/Harper game after the Longley game.

But now I resent that game because I believe it made Jerry Jones fall in love with Garrett. Had he lost that game, I doubt he would be our head coach.
Yep that's in my top 10 2

The Cowboys are a big part of Thanksgiving for me. A lot of great memories. Most of my extended family are Commander fans so Thanksgiving usually involved interacting with them in some way. Usually me against a roomful of Skins fans. 1990 was a really fun day, but every Thanksgiving has its stories. Even the losses. The people made it special, even when they were cheering against Dallas.

Longleys and Garretts games were unexpected and amazing. But mine is Emmits game against the Skins in 90, he became a star that day.
And knowing Garrett more now and how much he really doesn't understand the game makes it even more amazing.

That was a great one. Probably my fave too.

Here are some great Thanksgiving Day games many have forgotten because we lost-
1. 1979 game vs. Houston Oilers - great game even tough we lost in Roger’s last Turkey Day game 30-24. Earl Campbell ran for nearly 200 and Roger still had a good day in a dual of HOFers.
2. 1993- the Miami game where we had it won after blocking the game winning FG until Leon Lett touched the blocked kick and Miami recovered. Fins won 16-14. HOWEVER- it was the last game the team lost that year (and last Jimmy lost as HC of DC) en route to winning Super Bowl 28

I don't remember 1979 as much other than seeing the Earl of Campbell running wild. However, I remember the 1993 game. I had taped it and was watching it "live". My parents were out and got in to see me jumping around after the block, but my mom said, watch and there was old Leon Lett touching the ball. Ugh

Ha.

Nice vid.

There are DEFINITELY posters here who will clench their teeth and ball their fists up in anger watching that, because they have such disdain for Garrett.

I wonder if the 36 2nd half points he scored that day is still a franchise record?

My favorite Thanksgiving Day memory was of Clint Longley coming off the bench and beating the Skins I was at my sister's house and we were getting beat and when Rodger Staubach went out everybody started laughing at me so that's the end of your Cowboys of course growing up in Upstate New York and being a Cowboys fan is not an ideal situation

Dallas 24 Deadskins 23 1974 I loved every minute of it that might have been one of my favorite family outings LOL!
Ditto, we had thanksgiving at my uncles, a big Giants fan. Won a nickle off of him!

1980...51-7 over seattle...my dad and I goin' nuts.
1983...35-17 over st.louis...man,I hated them.
1984...20-17 over new england...couldnt believe it was that close.
1987...O.T. loss to minnesota 44-38...Danny threw 4tds...1 to Herschel, who had 91yds receiving and 3 to Mike Renfro...several times I thought we had it...so frustrating.
2016...Dak's rookie year,beatin' the deadskins.

my personal favorite...hangin' half a hundred on seattle in '80.

one that STILL hurts...OT loss to minnesota in '87...we shoulda won that game.

Don't forget the Thanksgiving game that Minnesota beat us into that was kind of disappointing I could be wrong but that might have been the Dave Campo era

It really was not that great of a performance. He got by on the jump passes to Harper that even he admitted and Madden commented on, his own wife had to call his attention to it. But hey, he is Ivy League smart and whatever.

I just watched the video and I remembered it differently than it happened. You’re right, he just heaved it up there. But still one of my all time favorite non-playoff wins, and definitely my favorite Thanksgiving day game.

Yeah, that is precisely how it was. It was even described that way live as it unfolded.

But now the legend is how Garrett came into that game and just lit up the Packers and matched Favre in his prime blow for blow.

I really wish there were a way outside of YouTube videos that get deleted for fans now to see games they remember fondly as they happened.

Memories become more romantic and you are really remembering moments and forgetting the situation that surrounded that.

Love everyone of the games you listed...especially the 84 game..md 26 with the pick 6 and our defense had like 10 sacks in that game.

1984 you could not ask for better free safety performance than Michael did that year.

The Snow Lett Bowl
(Look who was the holder for Miami o_O)

man,I loved those guys.

here's to hoping that tomorrow will be a game to remember. Maybe it's the whiskey talking but I can't freaking wait for the game tomorrow. Nothing like a Cowboys-Deadskins matchup on Thanksgiving.

Go Cowboys!

I think it was in 1991 against the Steelers. People were wondering if the Cowboys we good. Buerline (sp?) was the qb. People were just figuring out this Emmitt Smith guy is pretty good. The win started a run that sent them to the playoffs.

1991- Dallas beat the Squeelers

That was my only game to ever attend on turkey day. Me and my two friends(both Pitt fans) went to eat turkey at Denny's after the game and who shows up??? Aikman and his group sat in the booth behind us. Troy saw my Skoal can and he struck up a short conversation........no idea what he said though, was in awe.

We waited them out, so when they left, I stole his coffee mug and still have it to this day somewhere........

2007 when the cowboys played the jets. it was the first cowboys game I ever went to. :D
