We may not beat the Giants, but I think we should. Why?

Our team is SCARY good, especially our O. Think about it from a defense's stand-point. Who scares you?

1) T.O.--he's too dynamic, gotta know where he is every play
2) Romo--if you blitz, he makes you pay with his elusiveness
3) Barber--no one wants to tackle this guy
4) Our Oline--it's big, angry, and u-g-l-y they ain't got not alibi
5) Witten--Just too good, and a tough mofo
6) Julius--can't leave him alone in the flats and on screens

Now, Crayton, Fasano, Anderson, Hurd don't scare too much...but this is a lot of things to keep juggling for any defense. You gotta identify two key receivers and respect the run EVERY PLAY while being afraid to blitz. And, as shown, our OLine wears people out!

For comparison, the Giants--Scary? Not as much

1) Burress--Same as TO
2) Shockey--not quite Witten, but we'll call it even
3) Eli--solid but not scary good (you want to blitz him and he's best at pay action)
4) Jacobs--scary because he's huge, but not much threat to break a long one and I'm positive more people fear Barber than the always-gimpy Jacobs
5) Oline--very good, but not brute like ours

Ward/Droughns is no comparison to Julius
Toomer, et al are a toss up

From a D perspective, you play to stop the run, while doubling Burress with deep help. If you stop the run, you stop play action. You blitz and scare Eli on 3rd and long. He has a history of looking like a deer-in-the-headlights much more than Romo (who excels in pressure)

They can tick and tack elsewhere, but it requires long drives that are more difficult to sustain.

We're scary--Scary good. And the Giants will be very afraid if we score on the fist couple drives after giving up 45 last time. Start strong and capitalize on our big advantage--FEAR!

Myself. We can only beat ourselves. I believe we can compete with anybody any given Sunday and win....

In recent years, I was always nervous and chewed through my fingernails before the first quarter was over. This year, that has happened twice. The first was the Buffalo game, the second was New England. We nearly lost one and lost the other. Not once was I nervous at Philly and though the Giants made it a close one the first time, they just didn't make me nervous either.

I know what that nervousness feels like and I imagine other fans feel the same way about Dallas now. To try to come up with a realistic reason as to how your team could match up against the Cowboys must be a very sobering thought indeed.

U-G-L-Y you aint got no alibi? How about "Go bananas -- b-a-n-a-n-a-s" or "pork chop, pork chop, greasy greasy, we've got the Giants easy, easy." I could go on but the head cheerleader is calling me.

You try to get a lead on this team and force them to abandon the run, so that you don't get frozen on play action plays. The PA can be the bane of out team.

Another reason I am not nervous is because, even though we haven't beaten any really good teams, the Giants stats are due largely to 3 really bad teams. They scored 31+ points against the Jets, Falcons and 49ers. They are a combined 5 - 20.

For giggles, let's throw in their narrow defeat of 0-8 Miami, defeating Philly when they failed to give Justice any help even after the 11th sack, escaping with a win against the Commanders who had 1st and goal at the one to tie or go ahead in the waning minute. Can't forget about the Packers beating they took.

No, the Giants don't worry me.

What should make you nervous is that their pass rush has improved since game 1, that is undeniable.
The Giants probably have the best pass rush right now in the NFL, and that can go along way in disrupting any team.
I think we can beat them, and our OL seems to have really stepped up since the bye, if we use the Eagles D as a means of measurement...lol.
But nonetheless, this OL looked great against the eagles, and lets hope that continues next week.

Their pash rush was helped by a 12 sack game against McNabb, when Philly refused to give Justice any help whatsoever.

Edit: Compare those 12 to their 18 in the remaining games and you can see how other than the Philly game they aren't much to talk about.

I think the D's are pretty comparable--and the point is,

Our O causes more problems.

Jump on 'em early and scare em to death

This is one game where Wade needs to abandon his stop the run first theory and use Sunshine Bellichek's "take away there best weapon theory" which clearly is Burress. If Burress catches for less than a hundread yards and limit him to one TD or less, the Boys will win.

The Giants defense is the most overrated thing in football right now..

They have not faced a top ranked offense since they played Green Bay.. and guess what they lost.... they lost to our good offense and Green Bays.. Now they are playing us again i hope they blitz then that means alot of One on One

If we stop the Giants running game.. we stop their offense period

They use the run to set up the pays because of Eli's ability to be deadly on Play Action

Two points of concern:

1. The Giants defense has improved markedly.

2. The Giants passing offense was very effective vs. the Cowboys last time around.

I think the Cowboys are a better team and will win, but the Giants do present some challenges.

Someone posted a stat (I can't find it) that all of their sacks have come against the worst pass-blocking teams in the NFL. Atl, Mia, Phi, and I think there was one other one.

All I'm saying is-- Head to Head, our offense is better. Not about D.

And I don't think it's close. Plus, we destroyed their D last time and sounded scared about the way we handled Philly.

Capitalize on their fear...Our offense scares people!

But, the Cowboys only have 21 sacks, fairly comparable to the 18. And, for the sake of the argument, give the Giants three sacks in the Philly game, and they would be tied with the Cowboys.

The Cowboys were missing starters.
The Cowboys faced the Patriots, #1 offense in NFL.
Cowboys did not face the 49ers or Falcons, #29 and #30 in sacks allowed this year.

The Giants had 12 sacks against Philly with Justice getting no help in his start. They got 6 sacks against the 49ers, and 4 against the Falcons. So of the 30 sacks they have on the year, 22 came against 3 teams with serious problems pass blocking against anyone. 8 sacks came against their 5 remaining opponents. That is a little over 1 sack per game. Not as good as people make them out to be.

Edit: The Cowboys on the other hand have been CONSISTENTLY getting pressure. Our sacks by game have gone: 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3. Week 1 was against Eli, who has been sacked fewer than any other QB at 9. Week 2 was the Dolphins, where we couldn't sack him because he kept throwing interceptions. Other than that, we have gotten 3 sacks each week, not 12 against one team that failed to give their LT any help whatsoever.
