February 25, 1989: Jerry Jones buys the Cowboys

It's a pretty deep question to think over as some have mentioned it in the past but what if Jerry never buys the Cowboys?
Are those 3 distant SuperBowls worth the current and future legacy of this once proud football team?

Man, It's a tough one.
Cuz you usually have got the 2 demographics of starting with the 70s fan crowd or the 90s fan crowd depending on the age of the fan.

Jerry's not buying the Cowboys most likely eliminates a whole generation (the 90s fan crowd) of fans.

But would the team be better off overall both now and in the foreseeable future?

Just throwin' it out there for thought.

Or could they be worse off. Never having won those 90's SB's, and we all could still be waiting.
You know, 50 years like Chiefs fans did.

Fans should be glad and proud of the 90's teams. Regardless who gets the credit.

Though all very frustrated now, and should be.

Greatest owner in the NFL forever not up for debate, I can't wait until he retires so we can go into mediocrity forever!!

How could we have known the long term tragedy about to befall us?
Excellent question. Jerry Jones was a virtual unknown at the time. Practically no one would have known his mindset well-enough to predict his future, self-defeating actions. And that would have included short-term ramifications also (i.e. March 28, 1994).

We would be the Miami Dolphins of the NFC. Championships and glory years still only in the 1970s. Some decent runs in the 80's but came up short.

The run in 1990's does not happen without Jerry buying the team. While Jimmy was a big name in college, nothing would of linked him here without Jerry.
Even if by some chance Landry retired in 1989 and Jimmy was hired, could he of sold to the ownership that they needed to trade their star RB?

Thankfully Jimmy's last name was in close alphabetical order to Jerry's. That's what made them roommates and that's what made Jimmy the coach here.
Great point! Jerrah wanted to be comfortable hiring someone he knew. Always goes back to Jerrah’s comfort. Little did he know that everyone would look at Jimmy as the savior of the Cowboys and not him.

The worst day in cowboys history.
You’re living in the moment. Regardless what’s happened the past 30 years it led to three Super Bowl wins in 4 years. The Cowboys were the team of the 90s. Had Jerry not bought the team the Cowboys last SB win might have been in 1977. Not trying to defend Jerry but it hasn’t been all bad with him.
