I was already pumped about visiting my grandparents for a week and going to the game with them Sunday, but after the workout I had today I'm about to fly through the roof!!! I am seriously on a natural high right now, and it will probably carry over through the game. I'll be surprised if I can get some sleep tonight. I'm in the process of getting myself in shape for Arena Football this spring, and I'm still a pretty good ways from where I want to be, but I like the direction I'm headed in.
I'm about to start working with a speed coach in a couple of weeks so I can get my 40 as low as I can possibly get it. I like what I'm seeing so far. I'm curious to see where I would stand if I raced Terence Newman, Pacman Jones, Felix Jones, Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanbeck, etc., all the fastest Cowboys. Other than the drills I did today, I ran 10 40s.
Here is how I did on all 10 of them in the order that I ran them:
1.) 4.45
2.) 4.43
3.) 4.4 (I stumbled in my start.)
4.) 4.34
5.) 4.34
6.) 4.38
7.) 4.45 (I was starting to get tired.)
8.) 4.41
9.) 4.48
10.) 4.61 (I was exhausted by then.)
The 4.34s shattered my previous best of 4.41 from my sophomore year in college, and that was 9 YEARS AGO. The thing about it, is that I still don't feel fast yet, I'm still missing that extra gear. I'm still trying to dust the cobwebs off my legs, and I should be OK by February. And to think, I was about as far out of shape as I could be, and running 4.7s at the beginning of June. My goal is to be in the 4.2 range by my 29th birthday (Dec. 5) and to be in the best shape of my life by then so I can be in position to maximize by abilities in Arena Football.
The only things I still need to be tested in are my vertical and my shuttle. I haven't tested myself with the 225 lb. bench press, but I do have a max of 445 pounds. I want to be able to outmuscle, outrun, and outjump, and outlast any cornerback that has to cover me. I'm striving to be a blend of TO and Randy Moss at receiver, or better yet, carve my own niche since it's unheard of for somebody that's 6'5" 240-pounds to run a 4.2 40. Being 160 pounds back then, I never thought I would play football again after high school, now I have an opportunity to make a little money with it. I would be ecstatic if I ever got a chance to be a Cowboy, even if it's just the practice squad. I wouldn't be upset if I didn't either, because all I want to do is get football out of my system. I'm sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to share with everybody how my workout went today.
The Browns are going down Sunday!!!!!
