Feels like we haven't seen this type of game management in a while

Not here to hype Schotty as the next Jimmy Johnson. We beat a bad team. Fields has really gone downhill. He holds that ball and thinks he's Michael Vick, but he's not. He's an easy guy to get sacks and made our DLine feel like they hadn't lost #11 yesterday. Sort of sad because he was a talented QB. I remember our first game against him, and felt like he was going to have a career similar to Hurts in Philly, but he's on his last NFL legs if this is how he plays now.

But something I really enjoyed, and have in other games this year that we took to the end or OT, was the game mgmt of Schotty in these tight windows. Haven't seen much about it but Cowboys almost won the game at end of first half with those 2 key drive with 5 minutes left. Great drive and use of clock, and then they realized the Jets were about to blow it, kept the pressure on and went for another TD. Got lucky on that long run from Javonte, but again, something we haven't seen in a while.

Just seems like with Garrett and McCarthy we were always on the receiving end of that, including last second giant runs. Glenn looked clueless and unable to run an NFL team with his end of first half play. Surprising too because he's a Parcells disciple and that was one thing Parcells rarely blew. He always had plays for those moments and made the right calls. Garrett had question marks throughout his carer in those times, and McCarthy was the king of second guess Mondays. But so far, I feel like as a game manager, Schotty has kept it all under control, which isn't easy with the league's worst defense. I also like the comments coming out about him keeping Dak loose, and Dak enjoying it. Let's face it, Dak is a deer in the headlights come Playoff time and always his worst enemy. This is the type of player management he needs. And what about that offensive line being ready with so many backups? You guys remember all the bad coaches and depth issues we had on oline over the decades. Tyron or the Center goes out and it's a ball game. All those backups jumped in and did their job, and again, something I always felt like through recent years we were the victim of, not the team that did it.

I can easily see us tank the season, I can easily see us giving up 200 yards to a rusher, a lot of Football to be played. Just an armchair QB, but I do feel that Schotty is bringing this team to play and seems to have some good experience growing up in that Coaching Family that has made him a solid game manager.

To be fair, the game turned right before the half because of two plays more so than anything Schottenheimer did directly.

First, the Jets fumbled the ball at the Cowboys 10 yard line. At that point it was 10-3 and it was likely about to be 10-10.

Then, on the Cowboys final drive of the first half, they had around 30 seconds and seemed content to avoid a costly mistake so they handed the ball off.

Schottenheimer was likely hoping to get within the range of a 70 yard field goal to give Aubrey a try at a half-ending kick at best or simply go into the half with the current lead and get the ball to start the second half.

Instead, the basic hand-off up the middle led to several missed tackles and 66 yard gain and the ball on the one yard line. The next thing you know the score was 23 to 3.

Without that fumble, it's quite possible the score was 10-10 or 17-10 at the half and that would have changed the game for both teams.

Now, those plays happen every game, so I'm not saying the Cowboys were lucky because their defense did force the turnover and their offense did run the play that ended up gaining 66 yards.

I just don't think that was due to management more so than just being how the game played out on its own.

I should also mention though I do agree with you about game management in general seeming to be improved.

I'm not saying Schottenheimer is great at it, but from what I've seen so far it does feel like the Cowboys are better managed than they have been in years.

I think the team has an issue with some players who still like to freelance too much, but it seems each time one of those players gets replaced due to injury or being sidelined by the coaches, the team plays a little better.

Sometimes the dice just roll the right way. But I give him and some of the assistant coaches credit for a lot of things we've seen so far in games that went down to wire, or backups performing. There was a 14-point swing on the fumble, which was a heads-up play by our LB.

People are also not talking about the pass that was deflected and hit the sky cam. The officials missed that one, as there should have been a replay of the down.

I don’t think Aaron Glenn foresaw his team giving up a 66-yard run right before the end of the half. At that point, Scotty was playing for the field goal, which pretty much put the game out of reach.

It could have easily been 10-10 or 17-10;

Play calling and clock management have definitely improved. However, having a terrific running game helps tremendously.

So many magical first downs that Javonte is picking up makes it much easier for Shotty and Dak.

Having a running game opens up soooo many possibilities for Dak. I’m glad that we finally have an HC that wants to run the ball and have a balanced attack verses throwing the ball 50 times per game.

I felt under McCarthy, even when we had a decent running back, he was “too focused” on passing the ball instead of having a balanced offense.

This has opened up the offense; this offense is good enough to win the SUPER BOWL.

Having a running game opens up soooo many possibilities for Dak. I’m glad that we finally have an HC that wants to run the ball and have a balanced attack verses throwing the ball 50 times per game.

I felt under McCarthy, even when we had a decent running back, he was “too focused” on passing the ball instead of having a balanced offense.

This has opened up the offense; this offense is good enough to win the SUPER BOWL.

Yeah but the defense is good enough to get an early first round draft pick.
