I like the way these two are playing and I hope it continues. They look to be battling for every yard and Tanner has been a pleasant surprise. Looks like Choice clearly has some competition on his hands. Lonyae Miller has not been bad either, but it's just that Felix and Tanner have been outstanding. The OL still needs work on passing plays, but on running plays I like what I'm seeing so far.

A good running game and this team can go all the way folks!

They are good tough runners. I don't think I would've ever considered Felix a tough runner, but I remember last year against the Colts they kept using Felix as the pounder which I thought was odd. But he seems to have embraced that and he looks poised to have a good year.

Oh Yes he has, real bad.

How bad, you may ask?

Here are the preseason stats so far for our RBs:

Felix Jones 10 rushes 79 yards 7.9 YPC

Phillip Tanner 13 rushes 75 yards 5.8 YPC

AND.....

ARE YOU READY?

Lonyae Miller 15 rushes 7.5 yards 1.3 YPC

If the game stats are a deciding factor, and I think they are, I see no way he makes the roster.

Ouch! I didn't think it was that bad. I feel for him he made a couple of good plays and they were called back by penalty. Sucks because Miller works hard.

Yeah, me too, especially considering the hype he was getting out of camp. I'm sure all the praise had his hopes all up to realize his NFL dreams, but the reality is, I don't see them coming true.

Maybe fullback I just don't think he is big enough. These are the kinda of guys you want on your team. Hard working guys who are ready to go to battle. Wish he had some more talent. But on the flip side I am stoked about Tanner and I think he could easily replace Choice and we wouldn't skip a beat.

Tanner needs to do it another game or two but I see him as the real deal.

whats going to be sad is if murray plays next game the running back rotation probably looks like felix, murray, miller, tanner where as tanner would probably get a series of action. I would love to see garrett reward tanner and let him take miller snaps and give miller mop up duty.

Miller hasn't shown nothing that resembles a running back. He looks timid and easy to tackle. I think tanner broke more tackles in 1 run than miller did all preseason.

Tanner runs like a marion barber of old, but is faster. I love his heart and determination. He just has to get alittle better with pass protections and we can use felix, murray and tanner as our backs. Trade choice for a something (better than nothing) and put miller on practice squad where he belongs. Heck i would look at the waiver wire and see if a good back that actually performs get cut and see if we can put him on our ps.

Barber was one of the hardest-running RBs I've seen of late - moreso even than Tanner. But as we all know, our RB strengths have long been under-utilized, and I see no reason why Garrett would shift his focus now. We'll be using the run more often with this OL, but the passing game will fuel this offense again. Not always a good thing, such as first and goal from the 2...

I like this kid Tanner.

I thought Choice was looking to leave? Anyone know anything on his contract?

Choice is expected to return this week as well. But I have a feeling Miller may have played his last game. Strategically speaking, it would be better on the Cowboys to release Miller than Tanner because right now Tanner appears to have more value to other teams. If Tanner is cut, he will be signed off waivers. If Miller is cut, I don't envision any teams knocking down doors to sign him. He would be the most likely to still be available in an emergency situation later in the season.

I think he needs to play ahead of Miller

Looks like he needs to play in front of Choice right now. But let's give it the rest of preseason.

I know Garrett likes to pass, but if Felix can become a real weapon with Barber out of the way...I say let him loose! The Cowboys haven't had a 1,000 yard rusher since Julius Jones got 1,084 in 2006.

Barber's best was 975 yards in 2007.
Felix's best was 800 yards in 2010.

I want defenses to fear our running game and stack the line to stop it. Then, Garret and Romo can set up the play action to perfection.
Let's get our running game back to where it should be....DOMINANT!

Good point. Plus I think Romo is more effective when he doesn't have to pass 40+ times per game.
