I wan't able to see the game but saw a write-up that mentioned a puzzling end, where Felix Jones with space around him and no time left simply ran out of bounds. Is that right? What gives?

Sorry if there's already a thread I didn't see on this.

Well he had about 4 or 5 seconds left, he couldn't have known the clock exactly but he should have known he had to get the first down. They probably would have had a chance for a hail mary.

I don't think anyone on the team knew it was 4th down.

No way does Romo not take a shot downfield if he does.

He was trying to save time on the clock and I guess had a brain fart and forgot it was forth down and he wasn't past the 1st down marker.

Tony must have forgotten the down and distance as well (as did the FOX broadcasters), otherwise he would opted for some sort of Hail Mary pass. Either that or he thought Felix could take a sideline pass 60 yards to paydirt

That was 4th down and 20 yards to go.

this. there was a ton of confusion and i simply could not figure out what the hell we were doing. it was painfull as hell to see jones take it for a few and run out of bounds on 4th and 20.

i was so frustrated i couldn't even listen to postgame. we melted down and that was a completion of our stupidity as a team.

^^^that includes coaches AND players...but of course Romo lost the game on his own.

i would have to think that would be on garrett but i also put it on the entire freaking team for not paying attention at a critical time. hell, i could see it was 4th down and was screaming like crazy (contrary to popular belief about how i react) when jones just juked out of bounds.

it was a stupid call for the down and no one noticed it.

I think they forgot about that dropped Felix pass and forgot what down it was. Not the first time this team has done that.

It almost seems like they thought the sack was a holding penalty.

Exactly a 10 yard loss.

If you take away the down and distance, it was a perfectly thrown outlet pass. So we've got that going for us.

What he was thinking was preserving time for a hail mary. He lost track of the down.

Honestly I didn't realize it was 4th down myself.

The announcers were confused too. Joe Buck said oh that was 4th down. A sad ending to a sad game.

who lost track of the down? i would think going into the huddle the 1st thing said is "4th and 20".

i do recall a ton of confusion and i was already depressed as hell, but when i saw the dink pass and run out of bounds, TV=Off. garrett as the OC should have known what it was and called an appropriate play.

if felix didn't know what down it was while that's kinda sad, it's just a lower level issue than the team not knowing they only had 1 play left in their epic meltdown.

It's a symptom of where we are at as a team. It's not the reason we lost and I doubt it really made any difference one way or the other in the outcome but Tony should have known that it was fourth down with about 10 seconds to go and he had to get the 1st. Felix should have known this as well.

It is what it is.

yea, there's a ton of people responsible for that one.

Not really, Romo threw it to get Felix out of bounds and pick up the first, just didn't work out.

So much for players being better prepared by the coaching staff this year.

from what i recall, the play gained what, 4-5 yards on a 4th and 20? maybe they did call it, i just never heard the "official" explanation. it was called, they hoped that play would work, and felix just went out due to brainfart.

dunno, just curious.
