Lions Release CB Fernando Bryant
February 25, 2008
ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have released CB Fernando Bryant.
Bryant (5-10, 175) signed with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent in 2004. In four seasons with the Lions, he played and started in 38 games and registered 180 tackles, 2 interceptions, 34 pass defenses, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Last season, Bryant started all 16 games and garnered 76 tackles (65 solo) while matching career highs with 14 pass defenses and 2 interceptions. He suffered a foot injury in the ninth game (at Arizona, 11/11/07) but fought through it to finish the 2007 season without missing a game.
Bryant, a nine-year veteran, spent his first five seasons with Jacksonville who drafted him in first round (26th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft. His career totals include: 509 tackles (435 solo), 7 interceptions (26 return yards), 88 pass defenses, 3 forced fumbles and 7 fumble recoveries.
As a standout cornerback at Alabama, Bryant was a consensus All-Southeastern Conference selection as a senior in 1998 and a second-team choice in both 1996 and 1997. He finished his college career with 179 tackles (149 solos), three fumble recoveries and eight interceptions in 45 games (40 starts).

Could be a decent fit as that veteran CB a lot of us want and think we need. Didn't follow him much, but I don't think his skills have fallen off that far, and he should come at a decent price. He also has a lot of starting experience, and could probably do a decent job of stepping in if someone gets hurt.
