The parents of a 4-month-old Missouri boy who lost seven fingers during a pet ferret attack have been charged with first-degree child endangerment for the January incident.
Ryan Waldo, 33, and his wife, Carrie Waldo, 25, told investigators in Grain Valley that they awoke hearing the screams of their child, who was left with just his thumbs and a pinky following the attack.
Ryan claimed he picked up the pet ferret -- which was a Christmas present to his older children -- and hurled it against the dishwasher, killing it. The couple also said the ferret had never bitten anyone before.

What a horrible story. Not that the parents should be charged, however. Is it common knowledge that ferrets are unsafe around children? Or is this, as I would assume, a very strange and unfortunate attack.

I'm sure the parents are feeling pretty guilty as it is without having guilt forced upon them by someone else (that also had no idea ferrets were dangerous to children). They'll have to look at the evidence of their mistake for years to come...it's not like they were holding the kid over the railing of a balcony or something.

Poor kid.

Disgusting and heart-wrenching at the same time. Poor kid will never be the same. You hear about family dogs doing this from time to time.
