It's one thing to call it like it is, to be negative about negative play, and to be disgusted with our team right now, but that's not nearly as bad as being a fickle fan in the extreme.
With the exception of maybe 2-3 people who post on this site, everyone else was a huge Jerry Jones fan and Wade Phillips fan last year when we were earning home field advantage throughout the playoffs. To say otherwise is to be a liar. Most fans, because we were winning claimed Wade was just what our players needed after Parcells' stifling style.
A few fans got off that particular Wade bandwagon when December brought it's usual fade and warned of danger in the playoffs. When we lost to the Giants, everyone was angry...a few posters started reciting that Wade and his 13-3 record had never won a playoff game, but most fans sucked it up and got excited about this year.
Again, with a few exceptions, the vast majority of posters were hailing Jerry Jones as the best owner in football, a man who had learned how to gm in the NFL, a guy who loved the Cowboys as much as we fans..."he'll spend money and take chances and do anything to win."
A few weeks ago when we were 3-0 and averaging 32 points a game, everyone was giddy...love Wade Phillips...the defense will take some time with the new guys in the secondary...what great depth Jerry gave us....Love that Jerry Jones.
Well, we all have every right to be sickened by what's taken place on the field since that 3-0 start which included wins over the Browns, Eagles, and Green Bay, two of them on the road. We all have a right to be angry and to demand more, but with the exception of a very very small group of guys whom most of us blew off as negative jerks, most of the fans who are loved Wade, Jerry, and the Cowboys at 3-0 are now calling Wade and Garrett idiots, deserving of being fired, and some of the same folks are now blaming everything on Jerry JOnes..."sell the team jerry"..."hire a real gm"...
It's sickening to me. Most of us, and by most I mean almost all of us, were praising Jerry Jones and adding to the "LOVE" threads about our owner and team just a few weeks ago, and there is only a very small fraternity of folks who can say that's not true of them without being a liar...the proof is in the archives.
We went from 3-0 and rolling up offensive points like no Dallas team in a long long time to struggling through a couple of bad performances by our QB and OL, the loss of two starting CBs, our starting SS, some key special teamers like Hurd, our punter, and the other injured starters...then the loss of our QB, whom we now know may have had a lot to do with the questionable success of our OL.
Worst of all, the other players did not suck it up and play better...they started going in the tank for whatever reason...suddenly we can't stop the run at all, and that means trouble for everyone on defense.
Yes, we have plenty to be angry about, but calling for the firing of the coach and blaming everything bad about the Cowboys on Jerry Jones and using the same tired old mantra that the only thing good about the Cowboys in the last decades were all the work of Jimmy Johnson...well, it's sad and FICKLE.
I'm as stressed and upset as anyone...I live in Richmond VA...haven for all that is Burgandy and Gold:dissskin: :dissskin: .
Still, I believe we can get this thing turned around...maybe a little this weekend...maybe more after the bye, but the team that was 3-0, beating the Browns and Packers on the road and the Eagles despite what may have been McNabbs greatest day as a QB, and doing it while scoring 32 points a game didn't just disappear in the night. There have been injuries, but that was a team we were all very excited about, and because we did it 3 weeks in a row, I think we can do it again.
Everything started going south with the loss to Washington...maybe we can right the ship with a victory over the Skins after the bye week.
Whatever happens, we fans, while we have every reason to bemoan what our team is doing and the way they are playing, we should not be so fickle to blame everything on the very two men that we were praising at 3-0 when we were playing well and things were looking great.
If we're going to stand by our team, then we also have to stand by our coach and owner, imo....If the whole season implodes and the team quits on our coach, then it will be time to call for his head, but right now it's way too early...something weird happened on both sides of the ball and special teams after that 3-0 start...and now it's time to play some nasty ball...This team needs to come out with an attitude on Sunday in front of their fans and smack some guys in the mouth, maybe even some teammates.
Just one man's opinion, and I'm sure in the minority. I still love our owner, and I still believe in our head coach, not out of blind loyalty, but because I saw him coach a winning team last year and coach this team to a fast 3-0 start. Whatever has gotten out of hand has to be corrected, but I'm giving him every opportunity to do so, and I'll believe he will until we're eliminated from playoff contention.
