Prince has a herniated cervical disc and will need that repaired to alleviate nerve root impingement. He'll have anterior cervical fusion; should make a full recovery and be ok for spring next year.

Rangers are as snake-bitten as the Cowboys were last year.

I heard that his head has gotten so big, that his neck just couldn't take the pressure.

This absolutely sucks. We cannot catch a break! At least Mitch is ok for the time being.

And there's certainly no guarantee that he'll be the same quality hitter next year as he was in the past.

The contract the Rangers are saddled with looks ridiculous at this point.

In all seriousness though, who knew Fielder even had a neck? Learning something new everyday.

And Profar done for the year also.

Ian Kinsler is laughing right now I imagine.

It will be interesting to see if the Rangers are "sellers" at the trading deadline.

Yeah, that trade isn't looking too good.

On a more positive note, Profar should be 100% by the Allstar break, and the Rangers should be at least 10 games under .500 by then.

I miss Nolan.

I think this will be more evident as time goes on. Dumb move by the Rangers brass, really dumb move.

Dumb move because of the injury? Or just because? I didn't think it was a good move to get Fielder. The injury in my opinion is just bad luck. Fielder had only missed a few games during his career before this injury. He was as reliable as they come. I won't count him getting hurt against the Rangers. It was unpredictable that he would land in that situation.

The Rangers never did a complete physical exam. And his problems began last year, so there's a good chance that this injury was a pe-existing condition.

How's that for an irresponsible investment?

Dumb move forcing Nolan out.

I doubt they will be, for one simple reason. The valuable pieces they have are mostly younger players, some of who are injured. If someone would give them a little something for guys like Cotts, Soria, and Rios I bet they listen. For most of their other valuable pieces I'd bet against them trading most any of them this year, unless they get an offer they can't refuse.

Basically this year is somewhere between insanely bad luck and there's no such thing as an uninjured pitcher, just a pitcher whose injury hasn't been figured out yet. As to the lack of an comprehensive medical exam being done in the trade, that's not a normal baseball practice. Sometimes its done, sometimes it isn't done. Honestly, i would have been more worried about Kinsler's medicals, which Detroit didn't check then Fielder's.

I kind of doubt they will be also... But I don't view them as "buyers" either.

Personally I think the window has closed for many of these players. Houston has about run out of 100 loss seasons and you're going to see both them and Seattle get progressively more difficult to play. And with the ridiculous contract the Rangers are saddled with for Fielder, they aren't going to be bringing in a bunch of free agents.

Houston is going to stop being a 100 loss team, its almost impossible to stay that bad for very long. The question of if they settle down into a 70 win team, an 80 win team, or a 90 win team is still very much in the air. They have some good position players in the pipeline, but are pretty short in pitching prospects. Plus they really need a very high success percentage with their prospects. Best guess is that the Astros are still at least 2 years off from being much of a threat to anyone consistently.

Seattle is an interesting team. They have one great pitcher, one really good pitcher(age 33) and a bunch of guys that look good in part because of their home ball park. They have several very good pitching prospects, but the best of them have already had injuries this year. The M's big problem is, and has been since about 2001, their offense. That offense is garbage. Cano is a good hitter. Saunders and Ackley are alright. Seager is below average against most teams and some how godly against the Rangers. I think its still out on whether Jack Z can correctly figure out what his team needs any given year and go out and try to acquire it.

Right now I think the Rangers aren't in a bad position in the division despite having a slightly aging roster because they still have a good core of young players and I think have the Gm who has the best combination of money and ability at this point. Maybe Lunowh down in Houston will turn his collection of talent into something, of course 4-5 years ago the Royals were supposed to be the sleeping juggernaut. Billy Beane does a good job in spurts but unless he gets some consistent money I doubt the A's can have sustained success, 5+ year type of success.

Arod and now Fielder. Dumb moves.
Yankees did it too with Arod. We got Texas to eat $60 mil or so but then we resigned him. Ugh!
