We hosted in 1994 and it was a great success breaking tons of attendance records.Showpiece event for the worlds most popular sport being played in the one country that doesnt really care for it makes zero sense for many reasons.

Well, it does make financial sense. People from all over the world are going to come to the US. It’s a huge financial “sense”.Showpiece event for the worlds most popular sport being played in the one country that doesnt really care for it makes zero sense for many reasons.
Hooray, the true meaning of sport.Well, it does make financial sense. People from all over the world are going to come to the US. It’s a huge financial “sense”.
Its being played in Canada and Mexico too.Showpiece event for the worlds most popular sport being played in the one country that doesnt really care for it makes zero sense for many reasons.
It's actually to cover their costs. So they say. There is going to be 8 matches there I believe. There is a 4 hour window that if you're not going to the game, you're not getting on the train. You need a ticket to the game to buy the 150 dollar train ticket. But I'm sure this will come as a shock to some commuters.Does that include movies & dinner ?
Better hope the tourists stay off the NYC subway system .

I've been tuned in to the WC since 1982. I wouldn't miss it. It's the only event/competition that matters to the entire world. You win this, you truly have bragging rights. This is why I hate it when we don't even contend. What was the year we did really well? Was that 2002? We had a good team. Damn set piece.Wait until you find out that the appeal of the sport is far greater than you realize in the US
Oh come on. As a European I find them ridiculous (and I really hope they won't become standard procedure) but football and other sports basically have a break (for the players) every 10 seconds or so. You guys should not complain about two hydration breaks in a 90 minutes game. They need to stop with these hydration breaks. It's ridiculous. Are these little kids?

Do you think I care why they are having them? It probably is for commercials. The commercials for US football are absurd. A 3 hour game with all the breaks, and they only actually play 12 minutes. From whistle to whistle is around 12 minutes of actual play. And since players don't play both sides of the ball, any given player is playing for 6 minutes. No one should be gasping for air.And by the way, quite a few people think they were only made mandatory now because of American TV so they can show more commercials. In previous world cups they were only held of the temp/humidity was too high during the game.![]()
