The pass protection at the 4 minute mark was the most impressive play for me. Not just for Bass the entire line was in sync with their responsibilities and handled the Jets line stunts to perfection. Definitely a lot better than what we have seen in recent years.

If you can find competent offensive linemen late in the draft and sign undrafted free agents, you are really helping this team a lot with depth....

Thanks for posting. I’m really excited about Bass. He may be the steal of the draft. He really makes up for taking Schoonmaker in the 2nd round and not an offensive lineman. He’s playing better than a rookie and he’s an UDFA.
So they do know what they are doing then in the draft as well FA's.

They got a good TE and a good back up and possibly future starter on the OL.

What impresses me about Bass is how quickly he is developing and improving. I watched him in the first preseason game and he looked pretty mediocre. But 2 games into the season and he already looks better than Connor McGovern. I know, it is early, but he is not overwhelmed by NFL DTs. What I noticed about him and Richards is they are not easily bull rushed back into the pocket. That's a start.

In this video, the play where Bass missed on Williams for a 4 yard loss I thought maybe Bass made a mental mistake there. It looked like he was letting Williams go then realized he had to block him. I could be wrong. In any case he did a nice job subbing for Edoga. Edoga seems very fragile so I think we will see more Bass if Tyler Smith can't play.
I think he just had no doubt in his mind that Williams was gonna go inside, rather than outside, maybe thinking Pollard would already be farther along.

He looked fine.

I don't know how you all watch these videos, they take SO LONG to get to the point. They also have a really bad habit of pointing out basic, fundamental plays (like that pull) and wildly overstating them.
Glad I'm not the only one that sees that - I appreciate the guy putting the videos together - but my goodness he does exaggerate at times.

I post these videos and let people come to their own conclusions.

So far the kid is looking good for a UFA.

I hoping he's that guard that makes everyone wonder how he wasn't taken near his higher end projections.

One "real" game but he didn't look out of place.
Also happened to be one of the best DLs in the league

Here ya go.

LIke the film but I COMPLETELY agree on his whiff block explanation. Bass jumps up and moves forward like he thinks he is blocking a linebacker out in front then notices he made a mistake and left Quinten Williams unblocked. That was 100% a complete breakdown on what he thought his job was to do.

T. J. Bass is off to the kind of start that make fans delighted to see what their scouts are capable of doing. They've really rung the bell with this one.
If T. J. is nearly as good as his early exploits appear to indicate, we've got a winner on our OL for years to come. It's hard to believe he's a UDFA.

I agree with you about offensive linemen in the second round. But We both know that if we didn't take a tight end in the second round this whole message board would burn to the ground.

Don't forget Terrence still was also an undrafted rookie free agent. And of course most of the people on this board wanted to cut him. I'm glad we appreciate TJ bass a little more this time.

I hope he gets comfortable playing left guard because that's where he's going to be starting next year.

He kinda has that mean streak I like on the oline. Hopefully he’s not playing much this year but the kid very well be the starter if Tyron ever retire since smith will slide outside

Lol, true. That’s why I’m so excited about Bass. He’s playing like a 2nd rounder and we got him for free so we got the best of both worlds. On draft day I was upset we didn’t take an offensive lineman in rounds 1-3. But now I’m pretty excited. I smile at the fact that Schoon got his first TD the same game Richard’s and Bass played significant snaps. Got to love the youth on this team. We got our young offensive linemen that I was hoping we’d draft early AND got a good TE. A lot to be happy about.
