This draft is being labeled bad somehow. I find that actually shocking as it is really loaded with talent through a full 5 or 6 rounds. When you lack star offensive quality players who happen to fit desired measurables you get this type of under-rated draft class.

This draft is deep to me at OT/OC not so much OG. You want one of those first 4 or 5 OGs.

The WRs in this class aren't Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones but there are some guys who can play. Tavon Austin is a TD waiting to happen and was simply insane at WVU. He averaged like 9 yards a carry on 70+ rushing plays. He is tougher than most little guys and he has outstanding ball skills. And a couple of these inconsistent WRs like Ryan Swope or Cobi Hamilton are going to end up helping an NFL team. There may not be a prototype guy there but there are lots of players who can get on an NFL field and help.

This RB class is actually exceptional IMHO. If Lattimore hadn't suffered the knee injuries it would be considered the best RB class in years. These guys are all products of a more modern style of football so don't have the cache of an Adrian Peterson coming out of OU but they can flat play. 5 or 6 guys topped 1500 yards rushing last year. That's a lot of production in an era of pass heavy offenses.

Dallas at 18. Whomever Dallas gets will have fallen through at least 17 hands. The guy isn't going to be Mo Claiborne like coveted. But it doesn't mean he won't be a player. Dez proved at 24 you can get value if you draft talent. Same for Spencer at (26?).

I don't like Dallas being locked in a guy that is just set to them. See Bobby Carpenter and Felix Jones. Those locks to Dallas turned out poorly. They weren't major reaches but they were guys other teams valued less than us. We don't need to outsmart 31 other teams. I don't like those odds. Simply get the best player at 18. Not the guy we like out of some large grouping.

Going off of this draft's talent I'd like to see us end up out of this draft with 2 OL, 1 DL, 1 RB, 1 WR/TE. That's a pretty locked in group with 5 of 6 selections geared to need. but this team has serious need of younger, cheaper bodies at those positions and the draft looks heavy in those areas.

Not sure this is a year we get a Sean Lee type in round 2 after a Dez Bryant type in r1 but this should be a year we aren't cutting 4th and 5th round picks. Dallas has cap space issues and needs these guys to step in and play.

I'm with you except I think we also need to come away with a Safety. If that means we don't get a WR/TE, I'm ok with that. I think we can get a 3rd TE in the 6th or as a priority FA.

The media and draft analysts like Kiper love to have QBs and elite skill position players dominating the top of the draft. Having the top of the draft filled with trench players is killing them. They can't get average Joe NFL fan excited by talking about Guards.

There are prototypical WRs in this draft. Patterson, Hunter, Woods, Allen and Hopkins are in that group. Austin is not but he'll go high. Hunter continues to climb and Woods and Allen are good picks. I'm not high on Patterson but someone will draft him high. You have at least one first round RB and one QB. They just likely won't go in the top ten.

good notes all

Erik: yup I just left off Safety which was a mistake. This is a very deep safety draft and we have a need there. We don't have a high-priced Safety so from a financial stand point it isn't a big lift. Merely from adding talent.

XW: Yup. Talking heads are poo-pooing these guys but they can largely play. Just not a lot of flash at the very top. OL and DT are boring. The pass rushers (ansah, jordan) came on very late in their careers and aren't heavily lauded.

job: By prototype I mean the guy with size, speed and measurables at a major school. This isn't a bad class but many guys tested less than hoped for at the combine. Other guys like Stedman Bailey who flourished on the field just weren't big guys. That's boring compared to Julio Jones and his 4.3 40, near 40 inch vert at 220 pounds. Patterson is a freak athlete but came via JUCO and thus wasn't in a major program but for one season. NFL teams are somewhat leery of those guys.
