So, some of you will undoubtedly cry about using a simulator . . . and maybe this thread isn't for you.
I've seen people posting drafts, most of which I think would inevitably make the team better. It's impressive how many have an actual grasp on the draft and the players as the draft nears. Like, I feel like some of the most hard-core in this group could hang with Dallas' scouting crew, at least on some aspects. There's obviously more to the job than what we do here, watching highlights.. But, there's just a lot of people who not only get the gist, but have the specifics down well too.
I wanted to run through a scenario with players who I think Dallas has a first round grade on, and see if I could get it to fall to what I see as their biggest position of need, DT, because I have enough confidence in Ferguson and Hendershot to combine for 800 yards, if given the opportunity. Enough confidence that I'm not pressed to take a TE in the first round, because there are many in this draft and I can get a quality TE in round 2, or in my case, I think I finally drafted for need in the 5th and nabbed Latu, who I think might be the most underrated TE in the class. (And they had him in for a visit.)
I see Latu as a player who hasn't fully matured, and still has room to get stronger, and grow some more. Maybe I'm wrong. If there were such thing as a motor, at TE, and I think there is, Latu has it. He was recruited as a LBer, so he has the head for the game, if that makes sense, and it should. Just explaining why I waited on TE.
I'm not saying Calijah Kancey is the next Aaron Donald, but I think he will be a darn good player. If he gets by the Eagles, I can see Kancey tumbling down, because of his height, which isn't an issue for me. In fact, it gives you something that's difficult to prepare for, because you have a guy that strong, and fast, who isn't NFL height, so it's difficult to get leverage on him, because you have to reach down to get your hands on him. It's an advantage, in some ways, because players don't practice for that, and all that strength and speed is packed in tighter and wider.. Anyway, just showing why I could see them having Kancey as their primary target in round 1, hence all the playing chicken with them, and taunting, over Bijan.
Anyway, that's my reasoning for picking Kancey round 1 Before you insert your predictable whines, the title says "best case scenario, I know it likely won't work out like that, but it could. But I wanted to see what it might look like if a player like Kancey ends up falling to us. I Went for BPA regardless of position rounds 2-3. I think Sanders could even go top 20, but definitely by 50, yet, somehow, Sanders fell to me when I was really targeting Campbell, but I'll take it, because he is a hell of a player.
I intended on going offense in the early rounds, but the defensive players were too good to pass up, and these guys put us on par to the best d in 2023, or a top 2.
Caljah Kancey
Drew Sanders
Derick Hall
Isreal Abinikanda
Cameron Latu
Bryce Ford-Wheaton
Alex Forsyth
I think the first couple of rounds are either offensive line, maybe, or defensive players, depending on their board.
