He would have been down inside the 5. Instead, the last play was a desperate heave from near the 20 that had no chance. It was a huge difference.
There were 4 defenders looking right at him before he even caught the ball. but whether 5 or 6 or 7 it was still going to take a great play to win the game and we couldn't block Williams at all.
People that think that play was larger issue than the sack are delusional.
Odds of scoring a TD with 4 downs from the 7 are very high.
Odds of scoring a TD from 2nd and goal at the 17 are very low.

It really is that simple.

Who's arguing the sack wasn't huge?? That was never the subject of this thread, or my original post. Regardless of the costly sack, and lost yardage, lamb had all of that yardage back on the next play if he simply catches a wide-the-f***-open pass that hits him perfectly in- stride and in the hands. No , he would not have scored on the play. But as you yourself just noted, the odds of scoring from the 5 are much higher than from the 17. When he dropped that ball, it was game over. He catches that ball and they have 2 plays, and a legitimate chance, to score.

It's asking a lot for our scrub OL to block Williams. It's not asking a lot for a 1st round pick WR to catch that pass. He's a good player with a bright future, but he deserves to be raked over the coals for that drop.

Rake away if it warms your cockles but 3rd and goal from the 7 or even 5 is hardly the same as 1st and G from the 7.
Andy wasn't playing that well and in the first situation we could have simply run it 4 times and probably scored via brute force.

The drop was bad, no doubt, but A LOT of people are pretending that was the game deciding play. It wasn't.

You definitely notice the drops in big moments more than the routine ones lol
He seemed to have most of his drops in big situations for sure
But 8 on 111 targets is not all that outrageous
Overall our receivers combined for too many so hopefully going forward each of them can fix that
You don’t want to be second in the nfl as a team in drops
28 drops is way to many
But the guy with really the worst based on targets and types of passes was zeke with 5
Most of his are swing passes which are short passes and generally not contested

Honestly after the 10 yard sack, my inclination would have been to immediately kick the FG on 2nd Down to pull within 1 and give the Defense 2 different 4‐down series opportunities to hold NY and force a punt and Zuerlein kick the game winner with 3 TO's and the 2 min warning left.

Odds of TD on 2nd G from 17 can't be good.

Dalton heaved up all chance at victory on 3rd Down after Lamb choked. No bueno.

It was fun watching him Justin Jefferson, and the 2020 rookie class. Lot of studs.

Different set of circumstances, Lamb was a #3 receiver behind Cooper and Gallup. Also little consistency at the QB position but it is clear he's a playmaker.

He actually could have had slightly better numbers if Dalton didn't target Noah Brown so much against the 49ers......IJS

Pretty amazing rookie year considering he had four different starting QBs.
Imagine Lambs potential when he actually has an opportunity to establish chemistry with his QB.

Hard for me to think he wouldn't have been around 1200 yds with Dak all year.

With a healthy O-Line and Dak he would have similiar numbers to Jefferson. Also hes the #3 WR and we also missed our #1TE the whole year.

Still had very good numbers and flashed his insane potential.

With his insane work ethic he will become stronger and clean up the drops.

He will be really good but Jefferson numbers blew him out. However if Dak was healthy Lamb numbers would also have been different.

but he seems like a kid with his head on his shoulders and I feel like he will work hard this off-season and have a better 2nd year

Wow! 88 receptions for over 1400 yards and 7 touchdowns for a 15.9 average for Jefferson.

He will only get better . He will clean up the drops , which are a result of trying to do too much too soon
