I'm going for playmakers. I think Allen and Carrington could both start as rookies, and maybe Jerry too if our OL weren't solidly set.
1) Nate Allen (FS) - 6-1, 205 - South Florida
Allen has the size, speed and intangibles to be a superstar as an NFL free safety. Not only does he possess the physical ability to tackle and cover with excellence, he's smart, instinctual and driven as well. He was known as an exceptionally hard worker and team leader in college. He's the play-making ball hawk who will put the Dallas D over the top.
2) Alex Carrington (DE) - 6-5, 284 - Arkansas State
Explosive and extremely fast for a player his size, Carrington is simply a disruptive force. Ended the '09 season with 12.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks and All-Sun Belt first team honors. Tallying 10.5 sacks and 19 TFL in '08, he was the conference defensive player of the year. Was unblockable in Senior Bowl practices. He's moving up draft boards and will not be there at #90.
3) John Jerry (OG/OT) - 6-6, 332 - Mississippi
For a huge, powerful masher, Jerry has surprisingly quick feet and good agility to pull and move to the second level. Easily the best South lineman at the Senior Bowl, Jerry spent more time at right tackle than guard and impresssed with the ease with which he made the transition. This guy is a nasty mauler who can back up three OL positions and eventually take over for Kosier or Colombo. I can see him starting as a rookie.
4) Jared Veldheer (OT) - 6-8, 321 - Hillsdale
Huge, gifted tackle. He may take some time to fill out and develop as a technician, but you can't teach this kind of size and athleticism. All the physical tools are there.
6) Adrian Tracey (LB) - 6-3, 245 - William and Mary
Compiled one of the most impressive college football resumes in NCAA history, starting all 47 games of his career and racking up 62.5 TFL and 31 sacks along the way. He had 22 and 12 in '09.
7) Walter McFadden (CB) - 5-11, 178 - Auburn
I don't understand an SEC CB with six INTs and 10 PBUs being rated a 7th-round selection, especially a guy who runs in the 4.3's, but I'll definitely take him. He certainly impressed me with his performance in the Outback Bowl (only Auburn game I saw). The two INTs speak for themselves, but he played great coverage the entire game and was great in run support. Much better tackler than I expected.
