From what I've seen in the limited preseason, Wilber has digressed each and every game. Or am I mistaken? He flashed against Miami and then nothing. I would really be tempted to keep Thadeus Gibson over Wilber at this stage.

I wouldn't mind stashing Wilber on the practice squad. Can't see any team taking him right now.

the guy on Sirrius NFL says the Cowboys are close to being special, but is confused as to why the OL hasn't been addressed. He thinks the Cowboys should have pounced on Trueblood and Peterman as back ups to our OL. That way if an injury happens to a starter, you have experienced back ups who can step in. I agree with him. But if its not a Jones idea, its not a good one!

I listen all the time, which guy said that? I've been advocating signing Trueblood myself.

And J'Marcus Webb just shook loose too.

We've got to be looking at OTs and OGs. It might just be that guys we like better haven't shaken loose yet. Or that we like more than one vet and think we can wait until week 2.

If we're playing Free at OG (not sure we are if Leary's back, but, if), we need another RT who can at least play in a pinch. We'd get lucky to find a reliable, durable, young OG with some position flex, but the hurdle at that position is not all that high. We should be looking at at least one candidate to bring in and push either Arkin or Kowalski off the roster. I think the team likes Kowalski, so my guess is it'd be Arkin looking for work if the right zone-blocking type guy shakes loose.

the guy at 2 P.M. It might be Kirwin. He's really high on the Cowboys, but questions the lack of depth on OL.

My guesses at the final roster:

QB: Tony Romo, Kyle Orton (2)
RB: DeMarco Murray, Lance Dunbar, Joseph Randle, Phillip Tanner (4)
TE: Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, James Hanna, Dante Rosario (4)
WR: Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Terrance Williams, Dwayne Harris, Cole Beasley (5)
OT: Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Jermey Parnell (3)
OG: Ronald Leary, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Nate Livings, David Arkin (4)
C: Travis Frederick, Phil Costa (2)

Offense: 24 - will pick up another OT off of waivers.

DE: DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Kyle Wilber, George Selvie (4)
DT: Jay Ratliff (PUP), Jason Hatcher, Nick Hayden, Ben Bass, Sean Lissemore, Landon Cohen (5)
MLB: Sean Lee, Brandon Magee (2)
SLB: Justin Durant, DeVonte Holloman (2)
WLB: Bruce Carter, Ernie Sims (2)
CB: Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick, B.W. Webb, Sterling Moore (5)
S: Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, Will Allen, Danny McCray, Jeff Heath (5)

Defense: 25

LS: L.P. Ladouceur
P: Chris Jones
K: Dan Bailey
ST: (3)

  • Moore will stick over Pellerin because he can play safety as well as corner.
  • Costa will stick for being a backup at C, and that he's a cheap option.
  • Personal opinion, but Kowalski looked so underpowered last night, I can't see him sticking.
  • Matt Johnson cannot stay healthy, so they will move on.
  • The Cowboys will scour the waiver wire for OL depth, definitely at tackle. If a halfway decent guard appears, Arkin could be the next to exit.
Practice Squad Candidates:
  • OG/OT Edawn Coughman
  • LB Cameron Lawrence
  • CB Micah Pellerin
  • WR Tim Benford
  • RB Kendial Lawrence
  • QB Alex Tanney

I

wouldn't necessarily argue, but I might prefer him over Bell.

Webb at least seems to be trying.
Not really.

That's one of his biggest knocks, to be honest. Shows enough to think he could be a starter... then fizzles out. Lack of determination to improve. And he can and often is, downright terrible when unmotivated.

Opinions vary I guess.

Personally want no part of Bell on this team.

I read somewhere that Garrett said Matt Johnson would probably not be ready for the Giants game. So, reading between the lines, (maybe misreading between the lines) if they were going to cut him anyway, why bother addressing his readiness for the Giants game? I take it to mean that Johnson is on the 53. I don't think his foot injury is serious enough for the team to put him on IR.

Interesting observation. If he was directly asked about Johnson being ready for the giants game it might be moot though. But I think just the fact that Johnson was not out there is some evidence as well. If he was really on the bubble as a coach Garrett would tell him that and thus he probably attempts to go if it's at all possible. Otherwise Garrett tells him to just get healthy and not worry about a meaningless preseason game.

Of course he might be so injured he can't even attempt to go out there. I suppose we will see shortly.

The problem with the OLine occurred because they always kept low upside veterans as backups while Wade was the Head Coach. They can't develop any young players if they keep all veteran backups.

You had me at "they can't develop young players".

:D

But, in all seriousness, I don't see any young players currently on this roster that fit that bill.

Who are you referring to?

As Broaddus put it, Peterman is a bad fit for our zone blocking offensive line. He can't move. But then again, we have several lineman who can't move.

Jerry doesn't care, he has the mind of a 40-year-old.

As I indicated these are the guys we have now, I do expect some churning to take place as teams put players out on the waiver wire. I think candidates are Arkin, Weems and Wilber who could be replaced.
