Your scheme changed too. Don't underestimate that. You had another year of your young interior d-line playing together. Your d-coordinator was smart enough to see that Baun should have been an inside backer, and two young players, Dean and Smith, took the next step. The defensive players you drafted over the past three years have almost all hit to be at least starter material.

My team needs DT's badly. Our run D will still get gashed against teams with good o-lines without them.

Curious to see how your D holds up under next years brutal schedule. NFCE has it rough next season.
To my knowledge they’ve been running a similar scheme…just this time instead of getting someone who can run a Fangio defense they got actually Fangio to run his defense.

Eagles were 30th in total D last year. All we really did was change our DC, draft some good rookies, and add bargain bin FA’s

Exactly what Minnesota did as well. Get your Van Ginkle or Baun, and a quality DC, some healthy CBs, and everything will be back to normal.
You’re an Eagles fan but that’s not all Eagles did. Eagles are stout in the trenches and have been. Without the defensive line none of that other stuff matters. Also Barkley helps keep offenses off the field with him and Hurts controlling the clock. Personnel wise Cowboys aren’t far off talent wise. The main issue is lack of interior.

Conversely, Dallas doesn’t need CBs like Philly did. Si instead of drafting heavy at that position, get a pass rushing 3-tech and a big strong DE in the first couple rounds; that could be the recipe to a brighter future.

The issue with the Mazi pick wasn’t mainly that he was overdrafted; it’s that he’s a part time NT like Jordan Davis that was drafted to be something else. We rectified that issue immediately; it’s time for you guys to do so too. A strong 3-tech next to him will make Mazi’s role on the team much simpler

Remember before you blame Zimmer look at what Jerry gave him. I don't care if Zim is fired, but what did he have to work with? Mazi. Who was Mazi's backup? Lol. SF wanted Kendricks as a backup. Fast forward, Mazi improved and Kendricks logged 130+ tackles.

What DC was going to make this group a Top 15 (middle of the road) unit?

People harp on our injuries but other teams had injuries too.

Healthy we probably are about mid NFL maybe a little better.

That is not enough to challenge for a ring.
We need to toughen the DL up and restock the LB corps. A good safety would be nice to have as well. CB is kind of murky at the moment.

In the draft or FA the Cowboys need 2 DT's and a DE. I'm not talking about dumpster diving DL's either. They need guys who can play.

I hope this is the year they get serious about fixing the DL. Something long overdue.
Agreed, and much rather us fill the dt in free agency. We just haven't done a good job scouting rookie dts early in the draft. Curious what they do with Osa, I think he's a pretty good player but hasn't taken the next step to be that dominant force in the middle of the D they need.

This is why I am screaming that our #1 draft/FA focus needs to be DT. Get two of them to have a real rotation in the middle.

  • Total Defense: Dallas-28th, 355.2 YPG, 55 TD's
  • Pass Defense: Dallas-17th, 218.1 YPG, 28 TD's
  • Rush Defense: Dallas-29th, 137.1 YPG, 25 TD's
  • Scoring Defense: Dallas-31st, 27.5 PPG
  • Red Zone Defense: Dallas-32nd, 75% TD rate
  • Third Down Defense: Dallas-9th, 36.6% conversion rate
And if anyone is wondering, the Eagles finished with the #1 defense, at 278.4 YPG and 33 TD's. I do find it interesting that among the top-5 defenses in total defense, only the Eagles (#1) and the Packers (#5) are in the playoffs. The other three teams are the Titans, Jets, and Dolphins.
All Hail Zimmy!!!!

Bring em back Jerrhu.

Scoring defense 31st …. Horrible . I’ve said it in multiple threads posts Defense has to Dominate player acquisition in the off season and sorry the Cincy and Wash end of season Game illustrate this team can’t hold a late lead and close out things . Need a new HC but certainly a new DC .

Points allowed is the most important stat. They are 31st in points allowed at 27.5 with Carolina at 31.4 last.

Chargers are first in points 17.7

Bal, Den, Min, Det, TB, - top five run defenses all in the playoffs.

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and why Zimmer needs to be launched. Don’t care how they played the last 4-6 games, the first 10 ended our season.

To be totally honest, I can’t think of one logical reason why I still root for this franchise.

This is all on Zimmer.....being soft in coverage....lack of aggression with the D-line and LBers. Not gonna be shocked when Eberhaus is our new defensive coordinator.
