Final Thoughts about the Combine

Nolan Smith absolutely goes before the Dallas pick.

I think there is a very good chance that Philly takes him at pick 10.

Howie has been on a kick of using high picks on big SEC talent from Alabama and Georgia… mainly because he sucks at drafting, so he just takes those can’t miss products. He had first round misses for most of the 2010’s, started taking SEC guys and the misses stopped.

Plus, Philly has guys getting old on the edge (and sucking from bad drafting: Derek Barnett), so there is a need there.

And finally, everybody says drafting for the trenches is good, so Howie focuses on that.

And with Smith being the talk of the town because of his combine… well, put all of that together, and I’ve pretty much mentally already put Nolan in Philly.

Just think of what Howie did last year: Davis blows up his 40 yard dash, and Howie can’t wait to get up for him… despite the fact that Davis is just a run plugger and a two down player. It is so predictable.

But to answer the question of would I take Smith… I absolutely would because I would put a very high grade on him and he absolutely would be the BPA on my board.

I’d send the card in immediately.

-Georgia kids really put on a display, thought Nolan Smith, Broderick Jones, Darnell Washington were athletic freaks. Believe all 3 have solidified themselves as 1st rd picks and most likely all gone at 26.

-Great year for us needing a RB/TE. These classes are absolutely loaded, running back has serious depth, probably through 5 rounds, which is crazy. It wouldn't shock me to see 3-4 drafted in rd 1, which isn't the norm.

-What to do with these light weight receivers & corners? Many are under 180 pounds, which is crazy. I also was surprised, none really ran that 4.3 elite speed in the 40, despite their size. Forbes weighed the same as Allen Iverson the former basketball player at 166. I think some of these players will be taken off draft boards as very few have had success in this league with that frame. I know the modern game is different, but you still need the strength to matchup in the NFL.

-Haven't heard much on the fa front, like we normally do at the combine. Free agency will be here next week. Franchise Tag deadline, I believe is Tuesday. Pollard is our most likely tag candidate. Both Lve/Wilson could be playing elsewhere as a report came out that they are both far apart with the Cowboys. Wonder if they turn their attention to signing Bobby Wagner. They have been talking to many Linebacker/Safety prospects which suggests they don't believe either will return.
RB and TE being so deep is pretty good for us. leave those to 3rd and 4th round.
probably we can go for a bigger CB or WR if they graded out and available in the first. or an athletic LB. or DT.
this years draft class is not loaded on Tackle, so I would pass. Tyron is back for one more year. he will get his customery injury during the year. Smith can slide out from his guard spot and be the tackle, even for the future. so we can look for a guard that can slide into the guard spot, when Tyron is injured or next year when tyron is gone. we can probably find a good one in second round.

I agree man… I’m just not feeling this OT class.

RB, TE, CB classes are great though.

I doubt he goes before Mayer but it’s not impossible. I’m taking Mayer at 26 if he’s there.
I have Mayer ahead of him myself, but you know teams love those elite athletes

It will depend how the board shakes out. With the receiver being so underwhelming, it could push up other positions
