1. First and foremost I think Witten knew this past year was likely his last and I think Garrett knew it as well. It seems obvious at the end of episode 8. I won't spoil anything but its hard to see them not knowing.

2. Dez Bryant is obviously passionate and competitive on the sidelines and in practice etc. The media makes it seem as if he's yelling for the ball etc but that is not always the case....however, I think his emotional highs and lows flow to some of the others on the team and I feel like for Dak the pressure to as Linehan said "Throw it to 88 because even if he's covered he's open" starts to get to him. I'm hoping Dez no longer in the room frees him up a bit. It also seems like Dooley had to tiptoe with him on everything. Constantly walking on egg shells. I think the other wr tend to feed off of Dez because of his presence and its a reason he's not here. During halftime of the first Washington game I think it was we were leading but Dez had no catches and hes in the locker room telling other receivers he is just going to put a towel over his head on the sidelines. Thats not leading.

3. It was cool to see Linehan going over the play to Rod Smith in practice that would become the 81 yard TD and ice the game against the Giants.

4. Sean Lee will be a coach quickly when he hangs it up. He's the one in the defensive meetings going over tendencies and tape footage. It's no wonder he is always around the ball. We need to hope he stays healthy. Its like having the coordinator stand on the field with you. Its no wonder we play so much better with him in the game.

5. Re watching I didn't realize just how close we were to having a good year. The Elliott stuff weighed heavily on him and on the rest of the team but if Switzer doesn't fumble against the Rams and swing all the momentum now you are 10-6 and possibly in the playoffs. Of course if we could get off the field against Green Bay we could have easily had that one too. Generally it comes down to small things. Hopefully those things go our way in 2018.

I watched it yesterday. I got the same ideas.

Witten seemed like he knew it was probably his last year.

I got the impression the FO knew Dez was going to be cut also. They mentioned his declining of skills. And some of the players were done taking his crap. Very passionate player and hated to see him go.

Also kool to see stuff that goes on behind the scenes. They use the F work a lot. Lol.

Was kool to see the players off the field. With there families. D-Law definitely wants a big pay day. And Irving and his gf looks crazy.

JG looked scripted a lot.

JG repeats himself all the time. He will say let’s go boys let’s go boys. Sometimes he’ll say all right guys let’s fight let’s fight. Today’s gonna be a good day good day. The juice is good the juice is good

Pet peeve of mine. Super annoying

A few things a got out if it also is that I think it was time for the Cowboys to part ways with Dez. He brought all kinds of levels of drama both good and bad 24/7. I got the feeling the team, as a whole, were walking on egg shells with him around. I liked Dez, but it was time.

Garrett seems so disingenuous to me. All the f-bombs didn't fit.

I enjoyed more of the scenes that were not directly geared towards the team itself like the segments on his grandsons games or the HOF party. The segments shown in the team room and the position rooms started to get repetitious and boring.

I felt bad for Dmac. He came across as a pretty upstanding guy that was treated poorly in my opinion.

Beasley seemed pretty distant and uninterested the whole show.

My opinion of Garrett, Linehan and Rod did not change. I think they need to go.

Switzer was like a kid that all of sudden got full access to the team. He spent the entire show trying to make friends with the cool crowd.

Here's a few things I took away without giving spoilers.

I agree with everybody else on Dez. Even as I'm watching the team meetings and he's going at Dooley I'm saying to myself, "Enough Dez, Jesus, we get it." He just wears you out.

I always feel JG is scripted and guarded so it takes you back hearing all the F-bombs coming from him and it does feel forced. I get it's a sports environment and that's really how people talk, it's just surprising to hear.

It was nice to see Jerry's heartfelt admission that he let Tony and his career down. He owns it.

I came away really liking Biassucci. I love the hand-shakes and hugs at the end of team meetings. "Shake 'em and look 'em in the eye and hug 'em like you mean it."

I forgot about Zeke giving up on the INT in the Denver rout and the stir it caused. I agree with another assessment of him in another thread, I just don't get the feeling he's a killer. He's not Irvin or Emmitt and his body language is poor but he was under a lot of stress. It's just an impression, not necessarily the truth.

Scandrick is a very impressive individual. He's well spoken and has emotional intelligence that is rare for a person in their 20's

Bryce Butler has a great golf swing.

Not a lot of personality in Sean Lee, he was put on this earth to play football - period. I love him.

It's a great show and as real as it gets. You owe it to yourself as a Cowboy fan to watch it. You're in the position meetings, practice sideline stuff you've never seen, and real-time game footage.

Agreed.

Although I didn't care for how the coaches dealt with Dez. Hes an alpha and he needs a bull dog of a coach, not some timid coach looking to walk around problems but someone to address issues and recognize passion when it isnt detrimental.

They seemed to fold when Dez asserted his will wether positive or negative.

No way Dez could respect that. A coach with a set of balls could have helped Dez immensely. Many times Dez was dead on and the coaches sat there quietly rather than give him feedback.

Why not own what is happening? Tell him when hes right and tell him when hes wrong.

Our coaches looked weak and defeated by Dez, which is sad because for the most part he came off as a guy who simply wanted to win.

I'm with you...

I haven't quite finished yet, but my take matches your own pretty closely.

I was also struck by how much the position coaches have to ***-kiss the star players. I haven't watched this series for other teams, so I don't know how our coaches might compare to the Cardinals', but to have Dooley apologize to Dez for his language in describing the Broncos secondary, for example. Or watching Gary Brown give the mitten-treatment to Elliott. Blech.

Watching him talking tough in a coaches' meeting and then cutting to him bending over backwards in the talk with Elliott--and thinking Zeke will see that same footage--gave me the willies. Now, it's probably been edited, and he probably did say a bit more to Elliott up-front, but it's still not a good look. I've always assumed the position coaches were more like tell-it-like-it-is life-coaches. The show makes them seem more like minions of the coordinators and handlers of the players' egos. At least, so far.

I think you could tell the difference in Zeke once he came back from the suspension and it was over. He just seemed more lighthearted and stress-free

I personally did not get the same experience watching the one on the Cardinals with Bruce Arians. They were hard on everybody, stars included

Good info....I just started the series. And it has been obvious so far how stressed out Elliot was. And someone said it appeared the position coaches seemed like handlers, that was my first impression as well.

Yeah I can’t remember what he said at one point but it go very annoying. He said it like 7 times in a row.

Dooley... This guy's relationship with Dez is a big problem.

Dez NEEDS & WANTS to be pushed back.

Tipping toeing around things with Dez is not what get's a guy like Dez going.

Dez needs to feel a sense of urgency. He's a momentum player. When things are rolling he is incredible but when things don't go his way Dez gets way to down on HIMSELF and Dez's way of being hard on HIMSELF manifests poor play and takes away from the urgency to get better.

When Dez Bryant gets pouty that is when I challenge him. That's when I go at him. Throw fuel on that fire. Don't pat him on the back and tell him it's going to be ok.

He wants to be coached. He wants to be great. His emotions are clunky but if you keep him on his toes he will respond.

Is Dez detrimental to the team? Absolutely not. You really have to reach for something. He's a good team guy.

Yeah they baby him. No real coaching involved. He shows up late a few times. I power watched the hole series yesterday.

Just to add a few:
  • I think we are really going to miss both Scandrick and Witten - not nearly as much as their skill sets, but their constant leadership in the locker room. It will be interesting to see who will step up and fill those leadership gaps (I hope)
  • It sounds like Jason Garrett had lost some of the assistant coaches along the way - he seemed frustrated that some of them were "rolling their eyes, and saying oh no, not that again!" during his meetings
  • I loved the scene at the high school football game where the Jones family was in the stands and they were discussing how good the hot dogs were - they are billionaires, but seem really down to earth at times
  • The Jones family is very close-knit: I cannot imagine building that kind of family business and getting to work on it every day with the people I love most ... fun to daydream about though!
  • I think that letting go of WR Coach Dooley seems like a good move - he didn't seem to be a very strong presence
  • I'm glad that they kept RB Coach Brown - he came to life on the screen
  • On the flip side, I'm disappointed that they let Special Teams Coach Basaccia go to the Raiders - he seems like a pretty effective guy
  • The series definitely illustrated how much impact the Zeke situation had on the team - much more than was reported in the media
  • Sean Lee is a football god - is there any doubt why our defense crumbles when he is not out on the field coaching them up?
  • All in all, a great watch, and a pretty cool glimpse behind the curtain

Thats on point Catch, Dooley couldnt coach an alpha plain and simple. He wilted everytime. Its sad we can see that from the outside and nobody did anything ahead of time. That why we are were we are today. That and maybe Dez not fitting with some of the changes we are making in the offense.

I personally did not get the same experience watching the one on the Cardinals with Bruce Arians. They were hard on everybody, stars included

I was afraid of that. I'm going to have to go back and watch an episode or so of that one once I'm done with this one.

Overall, I would say, my impressions of the coaches matched really closely what I thought was going on in the first place. In terms of how they treat the players and what the work actually is most of the time. I thought Garrett showed as a different personality than he's been caricatured here. He relates better with players and is detail and competition oriented. He gets on them pretty good, and it's clear that the public facing Garrett is just running interference for everybody. I didn't like the assistant coaching scenes, and I didn't like seeing Jerry and Stephen in the coaches game-recap meetings (though that might be standard practice with other teams, I don't know).

I also didn't sense a lot of dysfunction with the players, but it's less of a team atmosphere than I'd expected. The facilities are so corporate and so big, and at least the way the scenes are edited, it seems they're with their position groups even more of the time than I'd expected. Except for the ST meetings where they do the Kiss of Peace and the game day locker room stuff, it doesn't feel as much of a family environment as I'd expected. It really is a big business with big stars getting their ***** kissed big time

I love it when people come up with cute ways to describe Dezs attitude

Other than just saying he’s a child who is a diva who demands the ball and that skins game cemented it for me. We are up at half and he is having a downer moment because he hasn’t been able to “throw up the X”

But he’s an “alpha” that needs a “pitbull” coach to get it out of him. Stop it dude is a me first guy who cared about winning second to his moments

Well that would certainly be disapponting. Ill have to rewatch the skins episode. That said I also haven't seen the Hawks episode.

No doubt Dez did play his own part in his release

For the most part though what my eyes saw were soft coaches who couldnt handle him, and therefore a mutual lack of respect (I assume.) Dez appeared to me to be more concerned about winning than anything else. Having a 3 point halftime lead while the offense sputters doesnt mean we are gonna win the game either. So yeah maybe he was upset at times he shouldnt have been but more in that context than us dominating. Although Ive also acknowledged he is immature and cant contain his emotions.

You can stop it yourself. We can have a dialogue without acting like we are discussing absolutes.

As I said before I also dont believe he fit into what we want to do moving forward.
