First episode of the Draft Show

skip to the 41:00 mark to hear Broaddus' opinion on if Todd France screws with the Cowboys up till the draft. interesting.

I don't necessarily disagree with Broaddus on that Dak point. If Dak and France are playing games up until the draft, I think you have to consider using your maybe Top 5-7 pick on one of the QBs, either the NDSU kid or the BYU kid (or maybe Fields if he's still on the board).

You cannot keep playing this game with Dak. At some point, a decision has to be made by the draft. Is Dak signed long term or is he playing for the tag? If he's going to play under the tag, you should probably take a QB with that first pick. It sucks but you can't keep kicking this Dak can down the road.

Good stuff.

I like hearing them confirm what I was thinking about the other QBs.. I never felt like Justin Fields was the clear #2 QB and thought it was silly anyone would put him ahead of Lawrence.

Brugler makes good point that watching Zach Wilson vs Coastal Carolina, a top 15 defense should be a good watch.

I'm skeptical that this team could remain competitive paying Dak $40M a year, which is what it's going to take to get it done. But man, drafting a QB high is such a crapshoot. I'd probably rather take my chances with a shorter 3-year deal then gamble on one of these QBs, unless someone is going to offer a Herschel Walker style trade for Dak.

I know this would never happen because the Jets won’t do it but if would strongly look to trade up to get Lawrence and try to trade Dak if we sign him to the franchise tag. If not let him walk if we go after Lawrence but to me that would be difficult because I like him. I would have to look at it from a financial reason and keep the emotional stuff out of it.

Thank goodness they put Brugler with KT/JC. Those 2 themselves are unlistenable. KT is way out of his element trying to do draft and his new gig with Ben and Skin. He barely talked in today’s episode. JC just likes to play shock jock.

One point to note. Todd France now has had multiple players of his, suffer major injuries while playing on the tag this year.

Dak and Bud Dupree.

I would imagine that has some affect on his strategy. Quite frankly, I don’t know how it hasn’t gotten him fired by Dak and Dupree. But that’s JMO.

But yeah. I wouldn’t play the franchise tag game either.

as much as I like Dak as a player. If he doesn’t sign long term prior to the draft. Then I would pull the trigger on one of the QB’s.

If Dak and France are willing to sign a reasonable deal. Then I would go that route most likely.

Agree. Some people think Dak is in the drivers seat because of how poorly we’ve played without him. I think having a high pick puts the cowboys in the drivers seat.
You tell Dak and his agent either sign this deal, or go be the qb for the bears or Commanders. See how fast those endorsement deals dry up when you are no longer the cowboys qb.

The pick isn't high enough for that to matter.

You think Dak's going to balk at the threat of Zach Wilson?

You could trade up to the first pick if you wanted it bad enough. It won’t matter because they will force daks hand before the draft starts. Either sign the contract, or go find another job. How much does Dak make in endorsements a year? 5mil? 10? 15? I don’t know. But he gets those endorsements because he is the whole for the Dallas cowboys. You don’t get these gigs because you are the Titans or Commanders qb.

Dak is coming off a severe injury. You think there will be a line of teams that want to offer him 100 mil guaranteed? No way.

It's not as bad as it used to be.

The #1 problem with why so many QB's bust is because most of them aren't 1st round players to begin with. They get taken because of need. Supply and demand.

You go through any draft though and you'll find several guys that are busts or get overdrafted.

I don't get why people are so scared to draft a QB anymore. I think it's because of how much money you used to have to invest in a rookie QB.

Now days if they don't hit then you just move to the next.

The Cardinals didn't need 3 years to evaluate Rosen. A better opportunity presented itself and they went with it. Thats what teams should do. Stop being so traditional.

Most teams are only as good as their QB anyways. It's the 1 position where the risk / reward is worth it.

Dak knows he is dealing with fools that will cave eventually. He just has to play the long game while also getting super rich.

He made 30 something million dollars this year.. Imagine.. He's already set for generations.

But yet he needs every dime without having any playoff success to show for it.

I would... Any player on our roster is on the table for trade too.. You have to get Lawrence in this building. All other roads lead to mediocrity except for maybe another rookie because of how cheap they are.

This strategy never works. You'd be asking the Jets to pass up on Lawrence AND Fields

The injury doesn't matter for his next contract.
