So, kids, why do you think this team has substantially outscored opponents in every quarter but the first?

In fact, opponents have outscored the Cowboys in the first quarter.

As soon as Tampa scored their only TD I told my wife "well as least we got that out of the way early". The big problem yesterday was the obvious missed holding call on Ware. Tampa should have gone 3 and out that first series.

I think it's the playcalling mixed with the offense normally starting slow. We pass too much early which eats no clock so the other team gets extra shots to score.

We don't run enough.

Thanks for the kid reference. :)

Ya know Juke, I have wondered about this also. I guess that it's just starting slow and waiting to see what the other team is going to be doing and adjusting to that style. Maybe they are overly excited and it takes a series or two to get the ball rolling.

Then again, I still just don't know. :laugh2:

Teams seem to be able to scheme for our defense and our offense seems "run-first" in the first quarter and then the playcalling starts to get more aggressive.

Most pass heavy teams seem to want to come out and put up a quick 7... not us! LOL!

Another factor with Romo might be that he just takes a little bit to figure out what the defense is trying to do before he gets going.

I was shaking my head in frustration when the Bucs scored their first and only TD on the opening drive. I was thinking to myself, this better not be a let down game after winning a huge game the week before.

Plus, there have been some Thanksgiving games that have not been too kind to us. Like in 2003, when the Dolphins beat us pretty good. Or last year when Denver beat us with a Ron Dayne TD run. Ugh!

But hey, we didn't have Romo playing back then right? ;)

Could be.

Same for the D.....They are young and it takes a series or two for them to adjust.

I think Romo takes a series or two to get "in the flow." Maybe a little too hyped so he tries to aim the ball with the extra adrenaline flow and then after the first series or two settles down.

As far as yesterday in particular, I have to say that I really wasn't surprised that TB scored on their first possession because I felt like it was the "let down" that comes after a big victory. But, I also felt like we would bounce back, unlike previous recent years where that would've set the tone for the game.

This team has, I believe, the legitimate confidence that comes when you know that if you play your game, you will not get beat. I think they have started to cross over into that magical realm where you "expect" to win.
