Trade up/down or stay at #19.
The differentiator is mental-makeup and I can only guess on that.
James - An SS that can be elite in coverage and can cover TEs is a rare commodity. Not certain about mental makeup. Reminds me of Roy Williams college game footage. RW was great in the early years but mental makeup caused his downfall. I attribute too much weight to mental makeup for RW.
Ridley - People are worried about size and age but he appears to be the most Pro Ready of all of them.
Edmunds - The interview is critical. Bruce Carter was one of the all-time great pure athletes but mental makeup limited him to average at best.
Smith - Safe pick relative to Edmunds but WLB only and must be in the right scheme with good DL in front of him. Mental makeup likely OK.
Vea - Safe pick. Upside might be overrated. Just too big/quick for college OLinemen. A solid player worst case and mental makeup likely OK.
Moore - High Upside but some risk. Scheme/routes in college simplistic but QB struggled. No idea on mental makeup. Interview could move him up or drop him way down.
Vander Esch - Super upside. Could be Rolando McClain but with a stable mental makeup. Inexperience shows but LBs that size that can cover are rare. Needs time in the weight room. Mental makeup likely good. He "looks" smart.
Da'Ron Payne - Safe pick. Played high level competition and very high motor in game footage. Somewhat of a tweener 1-tech/3-tech. Marinelli tends to love that type. Floor is Terrell McClain. Upside might be limited.
Hernandez - Very safe pick. Mental makeup likely very good. Upside might be Ron Leary at his peak. Guard is not a premium position. Less expensive and more available in free agency unless top 5 and he is not Zack Martin.
Not on the list:
LB Evans - Solid player. Safe pick relative to LVE but upside might be limited. Game footage shows him to be more raw than expected and instincts/mental-makeup a question mark even against the run which is supposed to be his best skill.
WR E St. Brown - I can't figure out why he is not rated as a late 1st round possibility. He might be a bit raw but not moreso than some players on this list like Edmunds. He is 6-5, ran a 4.4x forty, has good hands which are bigger than average, showed more as a route runner than many others including Moore, is known to be intelligent with no character issues. Only question is does he love football or does he just play because his Dad pushed him to do it. Stats were limited but QB was limited.
