First time in Cowboys history that team went for game-winning 2 points

Today was the first time in Cowboys history that Dallas has trailed by a touchdown near the end of regulation, scored a touchdown, and then chose to go for a game-winning (or losing) 2-point try rather than kick a game-tying extra point.

Not surprising, it’s a foolish move in all regular-season circumstances except when you care more about ending the game in regulation than you do about winning it, as today.

It was the smart move in that situation because the game did not matter either way, so the last thing you wanted was your players playing extra downs the week before a playoff game when a win or loss did not matter.

yup, there was no reason to increase the risk of injury into overtime. Besides, how do get any rest for your team for next week if you go into overtime?
