Fish: Cowboys do plan to spend on tier 2 free agents

Unless they are moving Tyler to LT, I wouldn’t spend FA dollars on a guard.

Yeah it could be upgraded but that money would be best spent elsewhere.

Bass, Hoffman and Richards aren’t awful players.
I sign will Hernandez. Hoffman is solid depth at 3 positions

Hernandez played better than some expected.......

His 2024 stats/grade per PFF
Overall grade .......69.3 ( 33rd of 135 guards )
Pass blocking grade.. 74.2 ( 22nd of 135 Gs)
run blocking grade ...66.0 49th of 135 Gs )

280 snaps played....78th of 135Gs
2 penalties ..........55th of 135 Gs
0 sacks allowed......1st of 135 Gs

1st in hits allowed
1st in sacks allowed
58th in pressures allowed
Every time I have ever watched him play, I have seen him getting beat, missed assignments, etc.. Not on every play but enough that I view him as the kind of player I'm looking to upgrade from.

I don't see paying him a vet salary when I expect similar or better results I can get for less. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my impression of the player.

Why not tier 1?
I actually agree with Stephen. Those guys get way overpaid because there are so few of them and everyone is bidding. I think if you're 1 player away from winning the Super Bowl, then it makes sense to shop at the top of the FA market.

The problem with the Cowboys have been they shop only in tier 4 or 5.

They are going to have to do something at linebacker. Even if they draft one they'll need to get a veteran presence. With our new DC it will probably be one with some gas left in the tank.
I really don’t know how many beatings they have to take in which they had no shot at stopping the run, for them to open their eyes and realize they need to invest more toward the front seven.

It’s not just this group either….they were weak up the gut under Quinn, big time under Nolan, and even back into Marinelli and the Rams playoff disaster..and even Ryan. They just didn’t have the horses because the FO doesn’t value the DT/MLB positions. It’s their repeated downfall but we are all well versed as to how this FO doesn’t like change. Failure be damned. Stay with what doesn’t work!

Well put. Sometimes that overpay makes sense, but I don’t think this FO really understands the difference, and/or when that’s worth doing given the rest of the roster.

Not supplementing those 2021-23 teams properly was a crime. All in the name of not having cap problems later…as in, around now….yet all they do is moan about the cap.

They aren’t good at this, and even when they get lucky and find themselves semi close, they fail to recognize it and do what’s necessary to not leave very exploitable holes in a roster.

LOL, the people who will define "Tier 2" are the two idiots in charge.

I expect nothing different than what they have done for the last 8-10 years.

They will sign slop but exaggerate how good the guys they signed were. They've gaslit this fanbase for years now, why would you assume it would suddenly stop?
This
What they think is “tier 2” is actually tier 10
Players who cant stand up and breathe at the sane time are in Cowboys tier 2

I view tier 1 as the option when you've built a really strong roster & you are looking to put it over the top while the window is open.

A tier 2 free agent will build the core of a team….

Teams that wins championships consist of tier 2 players …the solid additions that aren’t all pros but solid and hold down spots

And the cowboys are lying about this as well

They aren’t getting tier 2 free agents they’re getting “guys who’ve been cut from 5 teams” & “more teams cut from than sacks/tackles combined” and don’t forget “running backs who have 0 yards on their 5th practice squad”
