Fish: Major trade for backup QB hinted by Stephen Jones

They are going to give up a third for Milton aren’t they???
I hope it is Milton but not for a 3rd. That would be a massive fleece on Jerry. A 5th or a 6th would be good.

Ever since Milton came up in conversation I’ve gotten more excited about him. I watched the last game of the season against the Bills. He looked good. I watched his scouting combine videos. Again he looked good. I like how he Carrie’s himself and he can throw the ball 80 yards.

He screams developmental QB and I would give up a 5th or a 6th in a heartbeat. My reasoning is with his physical ability the upside is high. Dak is going to be QB1 the next 2 years at least. I would much rather have a young developmental player going in and getting reps if Dak goes down for an extended period of time. JMO.

We’re not done in FA. Few days later there’s trade options. Nothing happens. Ever.

Just making sure they are always in the news.

Same, I hated the idea at first, but I love the idea of having a QB with a Cannon arm for a change. I think a 5th would be good, New England aint giving him up for a 6th when thats what they used to get him. I just hope if he does wind up here, he takes Rush's old #10 jersey instead of the #19 he wore as a Patriot. Just for my own weird brain reasons.

A 4 for Lance was a steep price for a guy who played one game his entire Cowboy career . Don’t make this mistake again Jones . Draft someone you have control of contractually for 4-5 yrs at a decent price with thoughts of developing and you actually trust to start games . Will Grier can be your 3rd string emergency .

McCord out of Syracuse .

I think Dallas made a mistake by continuing to play Rush after Dak got hurt. I agree that the 4th was too high for a guy to only play one game. I was upset they didn’t play him more because if he sucked then he would have stayed and we would have a better draft spot. If he played well, reasonably well, we could have did a sign and trade or got a higher comp pick. I feel like we just wasted he 4th by not playing him. I also wish we would have traded for him and negotiated an extension for backup money. But o well. I think the combo of Lance sucking in the preseason , the 4th lost and the not playing him to see what we had in real games was a mistake.

With Milton this will be his 2nd year and I believe we would have him for 25, 26 and 27 for a max cap hit of 1.2 million dollars. I feel that would be enough years and enough cap flexibility to take a risk for a 5th, IMHO.

I guess what I’m saying overall with Milton is if I was watching his scouting combine tapes and watching him throw 80 yards I would be happy if we drafted him with a 5th rounder this draft. The fact he has a year under his belt and some playing time, albeit limited time, is cool with me. Especially with gus most expensive cap season being 1.2 million dollars. Way better than paying Lance 5 million for one game and a couple “packages”.

That should be the move.....but you just never know. I wouldn't be shocked if they traded for Hooker in Detroit. Or Brett Rypien.

Last year behind Dak they had a veteran and a developmental guy.

Once the season was lost, they decided to play the veteran because it gave them the best chance to win more games. Why would that be different next year under the same circumstances?

To be clear, I like Milton, and I’m ALL for grooming a Dak replacement, but now is too soon. They would essentially be counting on Dak getting hurt to give that player the reps they need. What if he doesn’t? Then your developmental QB is also a free agent when Daks deal is up. Gonna start the development then, when the rookie deal is over?

They should have been after a Plan B years ago. Now that they locked up Dak is when they begin to care?

Further proof that they have no idea how to build a team, or capable of an actual plan. Everything that a case by case.
