Fisher on Earl Thomas

You may have given up a super bowl appearance for Earl. Nobody runs for 200 yards with ET in the defensive backfield.

Except just slightly more than a year before the Rams ran for over 200 yards against Dallas, those same Rams ran for over 200 against Seattle, with ET in the defensive backfield.

Whenever Dallas throws out words like affordable or honest, nothing seems to ever materialize. Imagine that

Honest! That was the word they threw out last year!
Then there was secret sauce... What else?

This flipping team...

And that was all Stephen, IIRC.

Key word is "affordable". My guess is that Earl's definition of affordable is very different than the Cowboys definition.

Still think it's a long shot.

ET will be like every player going for that last contract except he has a good resume to back up the demand. I don't see him coming to Dallas for a lesser offer. If I was ET's agent would I take less for my client to play in Dallas, nope. I agree it's less than 50/50 that he plays for us in 2019.

You had a way better defense than they did. Nobody runs for 200 with ET in *your defensive backfield

That would seem reasonable considering he’s coming of injury
Hes guaranteed to get a couple years and 18 mil and if he’s still healthy and playing well he could get another deal after
You start out giving him in guarantee money to pay him what he is worth and stop whining about a hometown or injury discount.

Pay him his value.

Then add incentives that decrease the deal if he gets injured again.

And add more to the deal if he meets his contract- games played, Pro Bowl selection, number of ints., number of tackles, pass breakups..

incentives he has made before and are likely for a player of his caliber.

make the last year voidable by both parties so if things do not please BOTH sides..

you can move on.

This guy if healthy is worth 2-3 more wins a season.

Players like that are few and far b/w.

I’m wondering if the front office all but had a deal already worked out when they talked of trading for him last year ? You would think that if Dallas was really trying to trade for Earl last season they already had all agreed on the parameters of a deal ? Taking into account now his injury it “should” be an easy deal to complete if both sides were serious at all last year .. who knows .. probably a long shot though .. I see Dallas low balling and Earl still wanting 10+++ per year

Except know you're negotiating with his agent. The "both sides" has changed. Last year it was the Seattle GM who was looking out for the teams best interest. This year it's the agent who will look out for ET's best interest guaranteed. And remember, his agent get's a piece of the sweet sugar pie. Sorry folks, don't see it happening

He ain't signing for 3 years.
He is gonna get a 5 year deal for north of 50m.
Probably 27-30 million guaranteed....

Not 5 year I would be shocked not at his age. I think 3 year deal at around 27 mil. The only way it goes 4 is a team option on 4th year.

3 year 27 million/ 18 million guaranteed.

I agree with these numbers 100%. I wouldn't mind a 4th year team option because if his level of play drops off you walk away.

Or show him "respect" with a "5 year" deal that has a solid out in 3...
